À propos de ce poste Director of Data and Analytics chez Second Front Systems
Second Front Systems is seeking a Director of Data & Analytics to build and lead our centralized data and analytics function from the ground up. Reporting to the VP of Finance, you will own the full data lifecycle across the company - from systems integration and data architecture through business intelligence, reporting, and analysis.
This is a highly hands-on, player-coach role for someone who is excited to create the foundation, not inherit it. Our core systems and tools are in place, and reporting is accurate, but much of it is labor intensive, and our data structure is early in its maturity. You will establish the architecture, processes, governance, and reporting capabilities needed to create a trusted, scalable source of truth across the organization.
You will work closely with leaders and teams across Finance, Go-to-Market, Mission, Product, Services, Support, Engineering, People, and Operations. You will connect and structure disparate data sources, define consistent metrics, and answer the questions those teams are actually asking. A key part of the role is partnering directly with leadership to build the automated and recurring management, executive, and board reporting that improves visibility into company performance and supports faster, better decisions.
Success here means moving seamlessly between strategy and execution by designing the long-term vision for the function while personally getting into the data, building integrations and models, creating dashboards, and solving complex business questions. Over time, you will build and develop a high-performing analytics team as the needs of the business scale.
Note: Candidates must reside in one of our approved hiring hubs:
• DC/Maryland/Virginia
• Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, NC
• Denver/Colorado Springs, CO
• Dallas/Fort Worth, TX
This is a full-time position.
What You'll Do
• Architect the company's data warehouse, cloud platform, pipelines, data models, and BI infrastructure to replace ad-hoc reporting with reliable, reusable assets.
• Establish governance, definitions, and lineage for company KPIs so metrics live in one governed place and survive audit and investor scrutiny.
• Build automated, recurring dashboards and operating reviews for department leaders, executives, the board, and investors—timely, consistent, and decision-useful.
• Govern self-service analytics capabilities so teams answer their own recurring questions without sacrificing consistency or data quality.
• Own platform decisions, vendor relationships, reliability, cost, scalability, and security posture across the data tooling ecosystem.
• Synchronize data across ERP, CRM, planning systems, spend management, HRIS, product telemetry, contract and program systems, and third-party sources.
• Partner with Finance, GTM and Revenue Operations, Mission and Programs, Product, Engineering, and Operations to identify trends and drive decisions with evidence.
• Establish standards for code review, documentation, and quality; set the roadmap, prioritization process, and intake model for the function.
• Build analytics across mixed revenue models—commercial subscriptions, federal contracts and grants, and professional services—ensuring metrics hold up to accounting and audit requirements.
• Hire, onboard, and develop a high-performing analytics team as the business scales; manage the data tooling budget and vendor relationships.
What You Bring
• 8+ years in data, analytics, or business intelligence, including 3+ years leading a function, a team, or a company-wide data initiative.
• Demonstrated experience building an analytics capability where little or none existed — you have done the zero-to-one version of this, not only operated a mature stack.
• Advanced SQL and deep hands-on experience building with modern data stacks, such as cloud warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, or Redshift), transformation frameworks (dbt or equivalent), ingestion tooling, semantic layers, and BI platforms (Looker, Power BI, Tableau, Sigma, or similar). You do not need to have used every tool listed, but you should be capable of architecting and building across the stack.
• Working knowledge of SaaS business and financial metrics — ARR and its movements, retention, CAC and payback, gross margin, cohort behavior — and the judgment to recognize when a metric is being calculated in a way that will not survive scrutiny.
• Experience building reporting consumed by executives, boards, or investors, with the accuracy discipline that implies.
• A track record of designing data governance frameworks that enforce metric definitions across competing business units—finance, sales, engineering—without freezing the organization or spawning workarounds.
• Ability to translate between a technical implementation and a business decision, in both directions, without losing either audience.
• Comfort with ambiguity and with owning outcomes rather than tickets. This is a build role.
Preferred
• Experience in a scaling B2B software or technology company, ideally in the ~$10M–$200M ARR/revenue range and during a period of rapid growth.
• Experience reporting on a mixed revenue model — subscription revenue alongside government contracting (fixed-price, FAR-based) and professional services — and familiarity with the reporting expectations that come with federal or regulated-industry customers.
• Python or R for analysis beyond what SQL handles well.
The base salary for this position will fall between $200,000 and $230,000. Your ultimate compensation will be determined by professional background, technical proficiency, seniority, and regional cost factors. Furthermore, this opportunity includes potential eligibility for equity awards and discretionary bonuses, rounding out a comprehensive total rewards offering.
