Job Description:

Summary

This critical role is responsible for the P&L for the Aislelabs Engineering division, including DevOps. The Sr. Director, Engineering is responsible for the management of Aislelabs engineering resources, all software development and quality assurance deliverables and the processes and systems that build and support our Suite of Flow, Connect and Marketing modules that will support the business into  its next phase of growth.

The ideal candidate is prepared to manage a team through change as the organization is actively working to complete its NextGen product offering.  The team will require ongoing AI skills development, technical mentoring, improved metrics tracking and quality capacity planning in order to achieve key business objectives.

This leader will embrace communication and team camaraderie as a key part of the role, ensuring daily engagement with engineers and detailed progress tracking is completed and communicated to the senior leadership team on a regular basis. The Sr. Director, Engineering oversees key annual initiatives for the business, offers updates at all company Town Hall meetings and is an engaged communicator at weekly leadership meetings. This role will be highly visible and impactful as the company moves into its next stage of growth.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Manage and coach a team, consisting of DevOps engineers, software development and QA engineers located in Canada and India.
  • Define and drive the technological vision for the business with the General Manager and Leadership Team based on industry trends.
  • Shape, articulate, and execute the R&D strategy in conjunction with the Product strategy as approved by the business.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to validate the Engineering release schedules based on approved product priorities, accounting for available capacity velocity  
  • Oversee the system administration of Jira for the Engineering division, ensuring development and QA estimates are generated as required for planning purposes.
  • Assign and support all engineering assignments, tracking against the Roadmap and aligning with approved shifts in priority.
  • Constantly assess and monitor performance of the Engineering division while proactively taking steps to improve the KPIs/performance ratios. 
  • Provide monthly reports outlining Engineering performance (R&D ratio/trend, defects, backlog, productivity and capacity status, challenges). 
  • Define and direct the adoption of team-wide standards relating to development practices (code bases, tools) and processes (agile adoption, success metrics)
  • Oversee the DevOps function for our self-hosted server infrastructure powering global app access.
  • Oversee the delivery of a refactoring project which includes key attributes of machine learning, big data ingestion and algorithmic forecasting
  • Collaborate with the Aislelabs Leadership Team to address escalated customer issues, delivery concerns and provide input on key decisions
  • Complete an annual strategy planning exercise for the Engineering division as part of the company-wide Strategy Plan.
  • Recommend process improvements when known issues exist with people management, technology management, and metric outcomes
  • Oversee Cybersecurity and IT to ensure secure, reliable, and compliant operations—covering access management, data protection, incident response, and maintaining a stable cloud infrastructure that supports our SaaS and Data Center platforms.
  • Manage IT operations including user accounts, software and license costs, and company devices to keep internal systems organized, secure, and efficient.
     

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or 10 years of relevant software development leadership experience including managing software system deployments.
  • Experience leading a team of 8+ engineers and DevOps staff
  • Experience solving complex business solutions with technology.
  • Experience with AI-first design and development practices
  • Proven success driving growth, profitability and process efficiencies within a technology company or division.
  • Minimum of 4 years successfully delivering a mixture of small, medium, and large projects software deliverables. 
  • Ability to translate customer requirements into functional specifications for enhancements, interfaces and reports.
  • Manage and adhere to a change management process to control scope and ensure profitability levels.
  • Ability to drive quality UI front-end development
  • Management of budgets, including personnel investment planning, hardware investments
  • Deep knowledge of DevOps and hosting practices to manage a multi-continent platform
  • Proven experience building machine learning models, at scale, e.g. millions of data points per day
  • Strong analytical skills in combination with strategic, action-oriented mindset
  • High energy and sense of urgency
  • Ability to travel occasionally (< 5%)
