We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Director of Business Development to lead strategic growth across Europe within the life sciences sector. This is a senior leadership role focused on developing new business opportunities, expanding key client relationships, and driving revenue growth across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, diagnostics, and digital health organisations.
As a trusted advisor to executive stakeholders, you will engage with clients to understand their business challenges and deliver consulting solutions spanning clinical development, regulatory affairs, commercialisation, digital transformation, quality, manufacturing, and operational excellence.
This position offers the opportunity to work with some of the most innovative organisations in healthcare and life sciences while helping shape market expansion across the European region.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Revenue Growth
- Develop and execute strategic business development plans to achieve ambitious growth objectives across Europe.
- Identify, qualify, and pursue consulting opportunities within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, diagnostics, and digital health companies.
- Build and maintain a robust sales pipeline through networking, industry events, referrals, partnerships, and targeted business development initiatives.
- Lead the end-to-end sales process, including prospecting, qualification, solution development, proposal creation, contract negotiation, and deal closure.
- Consistently achieve or exceed new business and revenue targets.
Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain executive-level relationships with key decision-makers, including: CEOs and Founders Chief Medical Officers Chief Scientific Officers Chief Commercial Officers Clinical Development Leaders Regulatory Affairs Executives R&D Leadership Teams Procurement and Supply Chain Leaders
- Act as a strategic partner to clients, understanding their objectives and identifying opportunities where consulting services can deliver measurable business value.
- Drive account growth through cross-selling and expansion opportunities.
Strategic Growth & Market Development
- Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, regulatory developments, and competitive market dynamics across the European life sciences landscape.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts and consulting leadership to develop tailored client solutions.
- Support strategic partnerships, alliance initiatives, and market expansion programmes.
- Contribute to annual business planning and long-term growth strategies.
Proposal Development & Commercial Negotiation
- Lead the development of proposals, statements of work, pricing strategies, and commercial agreements.
- Work closely with delivery teams to ensure proposed solutions align with client requirements and organisational capabilities.
- Negotiate commercial terms and contracts while maintaining strong client relationships.
Market Representation
- Represent the organisation at industry conferences, trade associations, networking events, and client forums throughout Europe.
- Enhance brand visibility and market presence within key life sciences sectors.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Partner closely with consulting, project delivery, marketing, operations, and executive leadership teams.
- Mentor and support business development colleagues where appropriate.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of sales methodologies, client engagement strategies, and business development best practices.
About You
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Business, Healthcare, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Advanced degree (MBA, MSc, PhD or equivalent) highly desirable.
- 8+ years of experience in business development, consulting sales, account management, or strategic partnerships.
- Minimum 5 years of experience selling consulting or professional services to pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, CRO, CDMO, or healthcare organisations.
- Proven track record of delivering significant revenue growth and managing complex enterprise sales cycles.
- Experience building relationships with senior and C-suite stakeholders across Europe.

Location
Europe (Remote / Hybrid)
This role can be based within any of ProPharma's European entities, including the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, or North Macedonia, & regular travel across Europe will be required to support client engagement, business development activities, and industry events.
