Your impact at MUFG
As Director, Business Continuity & Operational Resilience, you will play a critical role in strengthening MUFG Bank Europe's ability to withstand, respond to, and recover from operational disruptions. Bringing deep industry expertise and regulatory insight, you will help accelerate the maturity of the bank's Business Continuity Management (BCM) capability and Operational Resilience framework. By translating regulatory expectations, industry best practices, and lessons learned into practical improvements, you will help ensure the continued delivery of critical services to clients, markets, and regulators.
Function positioning
Reporting to the Head of Resilience, you will act as a senior subject matter expert within the European Resilience Team, working closely with the BCM Lead and stakeholders across the organisation. You will shape the strategic direction and maturity roadmap for BCM and Operational Resilience, providing expert guidance and challenge across scenario testing, recovery planning, exercising, crisis readiness, and assurance activities. Through strong partnership and influence, you will drive the ongoing enhancement of MUFG Bank Europe's resilience capabilities and support the evolution of a robust, regulatory-compliant resilience framework.
The Role Includes The Following
- Defining the strategic direction and maturity roadmap for MUFG Bank Europe's Business Continuity Management (BCM) and Operational Resilience capabilities.
- Driving continuous improvement through testing, assurance, lessons learned, and remediation activities to strengthen resilience across the bank.
- Acting as a senior subject matter expert, providing thought leadership, challenge, and guidance on BCM and Operational Resilience matters.
- Shaping and overseeing the resilience testing and exercising strategy, including severe-but-plausible scenarios, and leading selected high-impact exercises.
- Providing expert challenge on Business Impact Analyses, recovery strategies, critical dependencies, continuity plans, and operational readiness to ensure robust resilience outcomes.
- Reviewing Critical and Important Function assessments, service dependencies, and process architecture, identifying vulnerabilities and opportunities to enhance operational resilience.
- Establishing and leading a structured assurance approach, including thematic reviews, deep dives, and assessments of resilience capability, recovery readiness, and regulatory preparedness.
- Advising the Head of Resilience on capability gaps, priorities, investment needs, and opportunities to accelerate resilience maturity.
- Leveraging DORA and broader regulatory expectations to deliver practical and measurable resilience outcomes across the organisation.
- Building strong partnerships across Technology, Operations, Risk, Compliance, and Business teams, and representing BCM and Operational Resilience in governance, audit, and regulatory discussions.
In order to be successful in the role, you will need the following:
- Extensive experience in Business Continuity Management (BCM), Operational Resilience, Crisis Management, or related disciplines within the banking or financial services sector.
- Proven experience operating in complex international and matrix organisations.
- Strong expertise in business continuity, recovery planning, resilience testing, scenario exercises, and Business Impact Analysis (BIA).
- Sound knowledge of DORA, relevant ECB and EBA expectations, and operational resilience best practices.
- Experience designing and delivering testing, assurance, audit, and lessons learned programmes to strengthen resilience capabilities.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify critical service dependencies, assess resilience risks, and develop practical solutions.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to engage and influence senior leadership, regulators, and business stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint, and ServiceNow, using data and technology to support resilience oversight and decision-making.
- Degree-qualified in a relevant discipline; professional certifications in BCM, Operational Resilience, or Crisis Management are advantageous.
- Fluent in English; additional languages such as Dutch, Japanese, Spanish, German, or French are a plus.
