Role/Team overview  

The Sky Business and Regulatory teams in Sky Data UK is seeking a visionary Solution Architect to lead the design and optimization of our data systems. With a focus on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Cloud Agnostic technologies, this role is perfect for someone looking to move into a high-impact role where innovation and scalability meet.

What you’ll do –  

• Design and Implement Cutting-Edge Architectures: Own the architecture and design of scalable, secure, resilient, and cost-effective data solutions across Sky Business and Regulatory programmes. Leverage Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and cloud-agnostic technologies to deliver strategic business outcomes. 
• Solution Architecture Documentation: Create, document, and present architecture artefacts, including High-Level Designs (HLDs). Collaborate closely with architecture, engineering, and business teams to drive alignment and successful delivery. 
• Evaluate Emerging Technologies: Stay at the forefront of industry innovation by assessing emerging technologies, conducting proof-of-concepts (PoCs), and identifying opportunities to enhance Sky's data capabilities. 
• Translating Complex Business Requirements: Act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders, digesting business requirements into robust data solutions that deliver measurable impact and deliver real business value. 
• Optimize for Performance and Cost: Develop and refine strategies to enhance data storage, processing, and retrieval efficiency. 
• Drive Excellence in Data Practices: Champion best practices in architecture, data governance, security, quality, compliance, and operational excellence. Ensure solutions align with enterprise standards and long-term strategic objectives. 

What you’ll bring  

Essential Criteria –  

• Strong Experience in Data and Cloud design: Strong skills designing resilient, flexible and secure data pipelines with Google Cloud or Other cloud vendors (i.e. AWS, Azure). 
• Proven Expertise in Data Engineering and Analysis: Hands-on experience in designing ETL/ELT pipelines, working with structured and unstructured data, and analysing datasets. 
• Strong Cloud Knowledge: Experience with core cloud capabilities, including data ingestion, data warehousing, object storage, orchestration, monitoring, security, and data processing services. GCP experience is preferred 
• Data Governance and Security: Experience in implementing data governance frameworks, cyber security frameworks, and operation models. 
• Teamwork and Communication: Enthusiasm for diagnosing and solving business problems with data and cutting-edge technology and work collaboratively across departments. 

Desirable skills and experience:  

• AI Engineering and Architecture: Experience designing AI-enabled solutions and architectures that leverage enterprise data assets. Knowledge of large language models (LLMs), AI agents, Agentic AI patterns, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), MCP (Model Context Protocol), and associated tooling would be advantageous.
• Experience with Atlan and Anomalo preferred.  
• Utilising Cloud Agnostic Technologies: Experience designing and implementing solutions using open ecosystem technologies. Knowledge of Apache Iceberg, Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, and open table formats is highly desirable.

How you’ll work 

We've adopted a hybrid working approach to give more flexibility on where and how we work. The hybrid working expectations for this role are 2 days in the office per week based in either our Livingston or Osterley location.

Livingston Watermark 

Sky Watermark is our central site for Livingston, sitting between Glasgow and Edinburgh. With vibrant office spaces, chill-out areas, and an onsite canteen, it’s a great place to work and connect.  

The nearest train station is Livingston North. A Sky shuttle bus runs between the station and campus every 20 minutes throughout the day. Plus, there’s onsite parking available for cars, motorbikes and bicycles. 

Osterley  

Our Sky Group HQ. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and workspaces, there’s plenty of space to see your big ideas come to life. Here you’ll find 13 subsidised restaurants and cafes. Our Osterley Campus is just a 10-minute walk from Syon Lane train station, or you can get one of our free shuttle buses from Osterley, Gunnersbury and Ealing Broadway stations. Plus, there’s free onsite parking available for cars, motorbikes and bicycles.
