Who are we?

Equinix is the world’s digital infrastructure company®, shortening the path to connectivity to enable the innovations that enrich our work, life and planet.

A place where bold ideas are welcomed, human connection is valued, and everyone has the opportunity to shape their future.

Joining our operations team means being at the center of everything – maintaining and evolving critical infrastructure that powers the digital world and delivers real impact for our customers, communities and society. You’ll find belonging, purpose, and a team that welcomes you—because when you feel valued, you’re empowered to do your best work.

At Equinix, our Critical Facilities Engineers operate, manage, maintain, and repair critical and non-critical power systems, HVAC, BMS, plumbing, fire control & suppression, and all site services. Our Critical Facilities team also perform all related vendor support activities within a mission-critical environment.

Our engineers work across multiple engineering disciplines (electrical, mechanical and controls). For this position, we are looking to strengthen our onsite Controls capability and are seeking someone who can bring strong Controls expertise into our Critical Facilities Engineering team. Applicants should have a solid grounding in Controls, Automation, BMS, SCADA and/or PLC systems and be capable of supporting site Controls activities while working as a Critical Facilities Engineer as part of the broader team.

Experience with BMS programming, configuration, commissioning and troubleshooting will be highly advantageous. Candidates with recent service, maintenance or commissioning experience within building automation, industrial automation, manufacturing, FMCG, utilities, oil & gas, HVAC controls or related industries are encouraged to apply.

Whilst data centre experience is always valued, it is not essential. We are particularly interested in Controls professionals who are looking to apply their technical expertise within a highly resilient, mission-critical environment and broaden their skills across critical infrastructure operations. Our Melbourne Cluster consists of four facilities, so flexibility to occasionally work across sites and support wider engineering teams will be highly regarded. The position is primarily based at ME4 in Derrimut.

  • Respond to BMS alarms in accordance with engineering procedures and escalation processes.
  • Participate in an evenly shared on-call roster and act as a first responder to site incidents.
  • Oversee plumbing and fire suppression vendor activities.
  • Coordinate and manage work approval processes including risk reviews, work supervision and completion sign-off.
  • Recommend updates to technical documentation and equipment records to ensure site information remains current.
  • Maintain compliance with Equinix safety standards, quality requirements and incident management processes.
  • Support continuous improvement through the review and enhancement of processes, procedures and systems.

Qualifications, key skills and attributes:

  • Trade or Degree qualified in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Automation, Mechatronics, Controls or a related discipline.
  • Ability to attain and maintain NV1 Security Clearance (customer requirement).
  • Experience working with Controls systems including BMS, SCADA, PLCs, industrial automation or process control systems.
  • Experience with platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Trend, Siemens, Schneider, Rockwell, Honeywell or similar will be highly regarded.
  • Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting capability across Controls environments.
  • Fast learner who can bring existing Controls expertise and successfully integrate into a Critical Facilities Engineering role.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative environment and contributing across multiple engineering disciplines.
