Job Summary:

Designs and develops data and knowledge based solutions using procedures, tools & methodologies. Creates data models, logical and physical databases, data dictionaries, access methods, etc. to support business objectives.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Assesses and analyzes data requirements at a system and sub-system level.
• Creates, designs and diagrams logical data models for optimum performance to support data applications.
• Works with new functional areas to design data models.
• Designs and extracts atomic data elements.
• Designs, constructs and maintains relational databases.
• Coordinates the development and population of new data.
• Develops and/or implements database recovery plans and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Level Specifications:

• Extensive knowledge and application of principles, theories and concepts. Complete knowledge of all job functions and the broad industry best practices, techniques and standards.
• Develops solutions to complex problems where analysis of situations and/or data requires in-depth evaluation of variables. Determine best approach to achieve results and provide suggestions to improve policies and procedures.
• Work is performed independently and requires the exercise of judgment and discretion. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments. Work may be reviewed at a high-level.
• May represent the organization as a primary contact on assignments and/or projects. Interacts with senior professionals and management and frequently coordinates work between departments or organizations.
• Actions may impact the organization. Failure to accomplish work will result in the inability to reach crucial organizational goals. Erroneous decisions may have a prolonged effect resulting in the expenditure of substantial resources.
• Foundational to intermediate experience with Databricks and lakehouse architecture.
• Working knowledge of SQL and Python or PySpark.
• Familiarity with Git, GitHub repositories, branching, pull requests, and code reviews.
• Understanding of CI/CD concepts, including automated validation, testing, and deployment.
• Exposure to GitHub Actions, Databricks CLI, or Declarative Automation Bundles is a plus.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services, Power BI, data governance, or Unity Catalog is beneficial.
• Ability to document technical solutions and collaborate with developers, analysts, architects, and business stakeholders.

Work Experience:

• Typically 5+ years with bachelor's or equivalent.

Education and Certification(s):

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience from which comparable knowledge and job skills can be obtained.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

• Supports data requirements for a business application.
• Performs data modeling and analysis to support data applications in more than one functional area.
• Databricks Fundamentals badge or Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate.
• GitHub Foundations or GitHub Actions certification, GH-200.
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Databricks Data Engineer Associate, DP-750, is preferred for candidates with hands-on Azure Databricks experience.
• Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate, DP-700, is a plus for positions supporting Microsoft Fabric.
• Microsoft Power Platform training or certification covering Power Automate is a plus.
• Relevant Microsoft Learn, LinkedIn Learning, or equivalent training in SQL, Python, PySpark, Apache Spark, Delta Lake, Git, CI/CD, Power Automate, or data engineering.
