Fixed Term Senior Radiographer (£40,000–£53,000 per annum)

Location: London

Reporting to: Imaging Manager

Contract: Fixed Term Cover (Mid July 2026 to End of January 2027 – approximately 6.5 months)

Core Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities

Clinical

  • Perform a variety of diagnostic imaging procedures, including MRI, CT, fluoroscopy and X-ray examinations. Cardiac MRI and/or Cardiac CT experience is essential.
  • Undertake IV cannulation.
  • Prepare and position patients safely and comfortably for imaging procedures.
  • Operate and maintain imaging equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images, reporting equipment faults where required.
  • Monitor patients during procedures, adjusting techniques where necessary to obtain optimum images.
  • Ensure all patient documentation and imaging records are completed accurately in line with departmental policies.
  • Adhere to radiation safety procedures to minimise exposure for patients and colleagues.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of imaging technology and participate in continuing professional development.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance, quality control and maintaining a clean clinical environment.
  • Participate in governance programmes, including audits and quality assurance.
  • Work in accordance with the Code of Practice for the Use of Ionising Radiation and IR(ME)R regulations.
  • Report adverse incidents and near misses through the incident reporting system.
  • Support the administrative team with patient bookings, vetting and other administrative duties where required.
  • Communicate professionally, safely and empathetically with patients and carers before, during and after examinations.

General Duties

  • Report any incidents involving patients, staff or visitors to the Imaging Manager.
  • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Remain flexible regarding clinics, administration, working hours and site cover, carrying out other reasonable duties when required.
  • Act as a professional ambassador for the organisation.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, transparency, openness and kindness at all times.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Diagnostic Imaging.
  • HCPC registered.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Relevant competencies for the role.
  • Up-to-date clinical knowledge.
  • Evidence-based clinical practice aligned with national best practice.
  • Basic workload and shift management skills.
  • Proficient IT skills.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • MRI and/or CT trained.
  • Strong understanding of clinical governance and imaging protocols.
  • Experience working within an imaging department (ideally MRI) and clinical settings such as cardiothoracic, orthopaedic or ENT.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong patient/customer-focused approach.
  • Team player with excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Accurate administrative skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Computer literate.
  • Proactive and compassionate approach.

Desirable

  • Cardiac CT and Cardiac MRI experience.
  • SOR-approved injection qualification.
  • Plain film and fluoroscopy competence using DR systems.
  • Experience within private healthcare and/or the NHS.
