What You Will Do:
As a Controller, your primary daily responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Establishes and maintains financial controls to secure the company’s financial resources. Understands and assist with other functions including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Contracts.
- Completes company and state specific tasks and reporting, as required.
- Prepares work papers supporting the completion of annual tax returns.
- Mentors and develops accounting team members, providing ample opportunity for career advancement and satisfaction while ensuring maximum utilization of staff and their talents.
- Coordinates the preparation of annual tax return with outside CPA firm, and the annual audit with outside CPAs.
- Reviews the processing of journal entries required to reflect monthly activity.
- Prepares work papers supporting the monthly close process and month end balances.
- Reviews monthly accounting close process including analytical review of the monthly operating results to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained.
- Prepares monthly financial statements.
- Performs cash projections to effectively manage cash balances and maximize the return on any excess cash balances.
- Prepares monthly work in process report and ability to accurately project year-end figures for total revenue and gross profit.
- Supervises accounts payable processing for assigned companies. This includes payables and allocations of costs incurred on behalf of multiple entities.
- Maintains fixed asset records. Implements, documents, and maintains adequate and effective internal controls.
- Implements, documents, and maintains adequate and effective processes to improve the close and reporting cycles to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
- Produces accurate financial information in a timely manner.
- Conducts proper analytical review of the asset operations from a balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow perspective as well as an overall business perspective.
- Prepares monthly financial management reports for leadership, along with appropriate analysis and recommendations for any corrective actions needed.
- Prepares quarterly business unit reports providing analysis of revenue, cash flow, G&A expenses, and staff utilization.
- Leads staff on all sales/use tax, workers comp, CGL, and other audits as needed.
Expected Hours of Work: This position regularly requires flexibility in adapting to deadlines, changing schedules, priorities and unpredictable events. Occasional unscheduled after hours support is required.
Travel: Must have reliable transportation. Travel is limited and primarily local during the business day, although some projects may require more out-of-area and overnight travel.
What You Will Bring to the Team:
Required experience, knowledge, and skills for this role include:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in the accounting and finance sector.
- -or- Equivalent combination of the above education, training, and experience.
Preferred experience, knowledge, and skills for this role include:
- Master’s Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting.
- Four (4) years’ experience managing direct reports within an Accounting Department and the accounting and finance process.
- Three (3) years’ experience working as a Controller, preferably in the construction industry.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification.
- Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP) designation.
