The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and people-focused Consulting Lead to lead and develop our Environmental Consulting team. This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for driving the delivery, quality, and growth of our consultancy services while partnering closely with the Head of Professional Services to shape business strategy, strengthen client relationships, and identify future opportunities for growth.
As a leader within the business, you will inspire and develop a high-performing team, champion operational excellence, and ensure the successful delivery of environmental consultancy projects that consistently exceed client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of senior environmental consultants, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the successful delivery of consultancy projects, ensuring exceptional quality, technical accuracy, and reporting standards.
- Drive team performance through effective goal setting, coaching, engagement, and professional development initiatives.
- Support business development activities, helping to identify and pursue new market opportunities and service offerings.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the business to align operational delivery with wider strategic objectives.
- Manage team resourcing, workforce planning, recruitment, and capacity management to support sustainable growth.
- Promote innovation, efficiency, and best practice across consultancy services.
About You
You will bring a strong academic background in Environmental Science or a related discipline, such as Geography, Geology, Biology, or Chemistry. Postgraduate qualifications and professional memberships, including IEMA, CIWEM, or equivalent, would be highly desirable.
You are a confident and credible leader with a passion for developing people and delivering outstanding client outcomes. You will demonstrate:
- Proven experience leading, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organisational skills.
- A proactive, adaptable, and solutions-focused approach to challenges and opportunities.
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to balance client needs with business objectives.
- Experience managing complex projects, driving innovation, and delivering continuous improvement.
- Strong technical expertise within environmental consultancy, including areas such as environmental audits, impact assessments, flood risk, and regulatory consultation is highly desirable.
You will be comfortable making informed decisions, working autonomously when required, and collaborating effectively across departments to support both business growth and team success. Most importantly, you will be passionate about empowering others, building strong relationships, and helping shape the future direction of our environmental consultancy services.
The Interview Process
- Screening video call via Microsoft Teams with a member of the Talent Acquisition team.
- First-stage video interview via Microsoft Teams with the Line Manager. This will include competency-based questions.
- Personality questionnaire.
- Second-stage interview (in person) at our Brighton office with the Line Manager, Managing Director and a member of the People team.
