About the Company

General Matter is enriching uranium in America.

Our goal is to design, build, and operate the world’s lowest-cost enrichment services in the United States.

Our mission is to restore America’s ability to produce nuclear fuel—fuel that will power AI, advanced manufacturing, critical industries, and the next generation of nuclear reactors.

Ultimately, our work will help power national ambitions and enable a high-energy society.

We were incubated by Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by top-tier investors. Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production.

We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency.

Help us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable.

About This Role

As a Consequence Analyst at General Matter, you'll own the question at the heart of the facility's safety case: if something goes wrong, what actually happens? You'll quantify the radiological and chemical consequences of accident scenarios across the facility — building source terms, modeling dispersion, and estimating dose and exposure to workers, the public, and the environment. This is a systems-level role: your analyses define how severe each scenario is, directly driving which safety controls we credit and shaping the Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA) that underpins our 10 CFR Part 70 license.

Responsibilities

  • Develop consequence analyses for radiological and chemical release scenarios across normal, off-normal, and accident conditions.
  • Develop and document source terms for postulated accident sequences.
  • Model atmospheric dispersion and estimate downwind concentrations, doses, and exposures using codes such as HotSpot, RASCAL, MACCS, ARCON, ALOHA, or similar tools.
  • Support the Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA) by characterizing consequence severity and informing the selection of safety controls under 10 CFR Part 70.
  • Evaluate consequences against applicable performance requirements (e.g., 10 CFR 70.61) and dose/exposure criteria.
  • Collaborate with criticality safety, fire protection, process, and licensing teams to ensure consistent accident scenario definition.
  • Investigate consequence-related findings and support development of corrective actions as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate analyses, assumptions, and documentation to support audits and regulatory reviews.

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals.
  • Ability to perform trade studies and make clear recommendations using first principles and engineering fundamentals even with partial information.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Health Physics, Physics, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of consequence/accident analysis methods and radiological and/or chemical dispersion modeling.
  • Proficiency in consequence modeling tools such as HotSpot, RASCAL, MACCS, ARCON, ALOHA, or similar software.
  • Familiarity with 10 CFR Part 70 and associated performance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Evidence of exceptional ability (prior projects, portfolio of work, completed products, etc).
  • Experience in a fast-paced engineering environment or a highly technical role requiring a resourceful, entrepreneurial approach to complete tasks within tight timeframes or budget constraints.
  • Experience supporting an Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA) or license application for a nuclear fuel cycle facility.
  • Experience with chemical process hazard analysis and toxicological consequence assessment.
  • Advanced degrees.
  • Certified Health Physicist (CHP) or Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred or the ability to obtain one.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.

À propos de General Matter

General Matter is enriching uranium in America.

Our mission is to restore US leadership in nuclear fuel. This fuel will power AI, manufacturing, and other critical industries. It will enable the next generation of reactors and the reactors powering ~20% of the US grid today. Ultimately, it will power our national ambitions.

If we don’t do it, no one will.  Half a century ago, the US held a majority of all global enrichment capacity. Today we are forced to rely on foreign powers and their state-backed, state-controlled entities for the nuclear fuel that powers nearly 20% of our nation’s grid.

We are fixing this. By uniting the nation’s finest minds from technology, nuclear engineering, national security, and finance, we are building a new way to enrich uranium, here at home. The fuel we are enriching will be cheaper, more reliable, and more abundant than ever before, and it will result in a stronger America.

As we build our team we are seeking the highest caliber engineers, technologists, creative minds, and numbers savants. We offer high standards, extreme ownership, copious autonomy, deep trust, and zero politics. We believe that despite our ambitious mission, our chances of success are great. If you are someone who will further tilt those odds in our favor, we want to talk to you.
