Are you confident turning regulatory requirements into clear, practical advice, while building trusted relationships and supporting a strong compliance culture?

We’re looking for a Compliance Advisory Officer to join our Compliance team, based in either Haywards Heath, West Sussex or Salford Quays, Manchester.

You’ll play an important role in supporting the Compliance Advisory Manager and wider Group Companies, helping the business understand and apply compliance and conduct requirements in line with group policy and process. You’ll provide advice and guidance across a range of compliance matters, including FCA compliance, GFSC and Bailiwick of Guernsey jurisdictions, while also supporting key business projects, incident management and regulatory horizon scanning.

In this role, you’ll help turn regulatory updates and emerging risks into clear, practical insight for the business, supporting recommendations, reporting and the ongoing development of a strong compliance culture across the Group.

We're big on working flexibly, you'll spend most of your time working from home, with occasional visits to the office. But if you prefer to be in the office more, that's good with us too.

Core skills we’re looking for:

• Regulatory Horizon Scanning & Change Management: Identifies and communicates regulatory changes, turning complex requirements into practical business actions.
• Stakeholder Influencing & Relationship Management: Builds trusted relationships, challenges constructively and influences decisions across the business.
• Compliance SME & Regulatory Interpretation: Acts as a Compliance SME across projects and incidents, explaining regulatory requirements clearly and practically.
• Analytical Thinking & Problem Solving: Assesses regulatory impacts, identifies risks and recommends effective solutions.

What’s Involved:

• You’ll actively support the Compliance Advisory Manager in the Group’s compliance.
• You’ll provide advice, guidance, and challenge across the Group on compliance and conduct matters,
• You’ll maintain the regulatory papers log and assist in producing insightful reports and regulatory summaries as instructed by the Compliance Advisory Manager. This includes horizon scanning for emerging risks, rules, and guidance.

• You’ll be seen by key stakeholders as a trusted business partner who individually adds value.
• You’ll provide timely and accurate Compliance sign off as instructed e.g. financial promotions and customer journeys.
• You’ll assist in providing regulatory guidance to the incident management process as instructed.
• You’ll assist project teams (as allocated by the Compliance Advice Manager) within the Group with a view to ensuring that compliance considerations are identified and recorded from inception to delivery.
• You’ll provide advice to the business on the practical application of policies and other business standards.
• You’ll assist in the administration of regulatory documentation, reporting and submissions.
• You’ll assist in the implementation of the Group compliance culture.

• You’ll comply with the requirements, and act in accordance with, the Group Code of Conduct and Fitness and Propriety policies at all times.
• You’ll ensure compliance with Company Policies, Values and guidelines and other relevant standards/ regulations at all times, including compliance with the Senior Managers Certification Regime (SMCR) Conduct Rules.

Experience & Knowledge:

• Good grasp of compliance, risk and conduct current and emerging agenda within the jurisdictions that First Central operate
• Proven track record in delivering advice and sign off to quality, quantity time and cost restraints
• Substantial understanding of financial services and the General Insurance market and its standards
• Credible practitioner with a proven track record of success (ideally in compliance and conduct role)

Skills & Qualifications:

• Recognised compliance, audit or legal qualification desirable
• Demonstrates ability and willingness to learn new disciplines quickly, including the regulatory agenda
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written
• Good time management and organisation skills
• Able to communicate knowledge and expertise simply.
• Influencing and negotiation skills with key stakeholders, and the ability to deliver difficult message when needed, articulate advice and consequences clearly and concisely
• Good presentation skills
• Problem solving skills with the ability to adopt a logical approach to solving problems
• Ability to build strong and trusted relationships
• Competent use of IT and software (i.e. Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
