As a Data and Finance co-op intern, you will gain hands-on experience working with financial data, reporting processes, system integrations, and process improvement initiatives within a leading life insurance organization. You will contribute to meaningful projects that support financial reporting, reconciliation, controls, testing, and data transformation while developing practical skills in analytics, stakeholder collaboration, and problem-solving.
Position Responsibilities:
- Support finance data preparation, validation, analysis, and reporting activities to facilitate financial reporting, reconciliation, and control processes.
- Assist in reviewing and maintaining source data, mapping files, and reporting datasets to enhance data quality, consistency, and accuracy.
- Identify and investigate data issues, logic gaps, mapping discrepancies, and reporting inconsistencies across source systems and reporting outputs.
- Support process improvement initiatives and automation opportunities to reduce manual effort, enhance efficiency, and strengthen reporting controls.
- Translate complex data and system outputs into clear, actionable insights and user-friendly formats for finance stakeholders.
- Assist in testing reporting enhancements, system changes, and process improvements, including test preparation, result validation, defect tracking, and issue resolution.
- Prepare clear documentation, process flows, and presentation materials to communicate data logic, methodologies, findings, issues identified, and recommended improvements.
- Collaborate with regional and local Finance teams, as well as cross-functional stakeholders, to support project implementation, reporting initiatives, and ongoing business requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Business Administration (BBA), Information Systems, Accounting, Finance, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Data Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related discipline.
- Basic knowledge of SQL, Python, or business intelligence tools functional build for data modelling with structured data in reporting and analytics.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, lookup functions, pivot tables, and working with large datasets.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand data relationships, business logic, and reporting requirements.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to identify data quality issues, inconsistencies, exceptions, and control gaps.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present findings and explain data insights clearly to business stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, organized, and eager to learn in a fast-paced finance, data, and reporting environment, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Available to commit to a full-time internship (5 days per week) during the internship period.
