The Clinical Therapist is supervised by the Clinical Director, but must work in collaboration with all program managers, coordinators, and staff.  The Clinical Therapist is responsible for psychosocial assessment, consultation, care coordination, crisis intervention services, treatment plan development/monitoring, and conducting individual, group, and/or family therapy for assigned clients.  May include office, home-based, or community-based service provision.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum Skills / Competencies Required: 

    1. Meet Behavioral Healthcare Documentation Requirements - Ability to document service activity in a timely fashion, express information clearly and concisely, using appropriate terminology, avoiding jargon, and structuring information logically, thoroughly and accurately. 

    2. Positive Language & Attitude - Ability to approach interactions with a positive and helpful tone, maintaining a helpful and upbeat demeanor even in challenging situations.

    3. Effective Communication - Ability to engage in active listening, considering perspective and feelings of others to build rapport and foster collaboration, working as a member of a team.

    4. Proactive Communication - Ability to keep treatment team members informed of progress,  potential barriers, serious incidents, receiving and conveying information clearly and accurately.

    5. Professionalism & Teamwork - Ability to adhere to ethical standards, represent organization in a positive manner, show respect for opinions, contributions, and perspectives of all team members. 

    6. Reliability - Ability of clients, families, stakeholders, supervisors, and colleagues trust that you will follow through to a high standard and meet expectations without constant monitoring.

    7. Reflection & Self-Assessment - Ability to reflect on your experiences, evaluate your progress, and identify areas for growth and improvement.

    8. Time Management & Organization - Ability to allocate time and create a structured & efficient workflow, prioritizing and completing necessary tasks without constant oversight or direction.

    9. Adaptability & Problem Solving - Ability to adjust thoughts, behaviors, and strategies in response to new situations, challenges, and feedback with the capacity to identify issues, analyze information, evaluate options, and find creative solutions to challenges.

    Minimum Qualifications Required:

    1. A Master’s Degree or Doctorate from an accredited college or university in Social Work; Guidance and Counseling; Psychology; or related health field, plus any combination or graduate studies in the above areas and experience in Behavioral Health adding up to two (2) years of experience working with SED children and families.

    2. Current New Mexico licensure is in good standing as one or more of the following: LPCC, LCSW, LMFT, PhD, PsyD, LMSW, LMHC, LPAT.

    3. Thorough knowledge of, and ability to access and coordinate with, community resources.

    4. Demonstrated ability to consistently establish positive, professional relationships and to communicate and work cooperatively with clients, families, colleagues, and community partners.

    5. Proficiency with computers and electronic systems sufficient to maintain compliance with BHSD standards, including use of electronic health records (EHRs), computerized client assessments, and data/reporting systems.

    6. Valid New Mexico driver’s license, reliable transportation, and an acceptable driving record; must maintain required auto insurance coverage in accordance with agency policy.

    7. Ability to obtain and maintain Criminal Records Clearance (local, state, and FBI) in accordance with agency and funder requirements. Employment is  contingent upon successful completion of required background checks.

    8. Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or ability to obtain within the timeframe specified by agency policy after hire, and maintain thereafter.

    9. Current certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or equivalent, or ability to obtain within the timeframe specified by agency policy after hire, and maintain thereafter.

    10. Bilingual/bicultural (English/Spanish) preferred 

    Physical Requirements:

    1. Ability to sit, stand, walk, and travel within the community for extended periods.

    2. May require lifting or moving light objects or assisting clients physically on occasion.

  • General Duties & Responsibilities:

     

    1. Knows and responds to Agency philosophy, policies, and standards of conduct. 

    2. Understands and complies with all contract requirements and State regulations. 

    3. Develops a written psychosocial assessment within 48 hours of admission/assignment of case. 

    4. Attends treatment team meetings, case reviews, and problem-solving sessions.  Consults with agency staff and collateral entities to ensure coordination of services for assigned clients. 

    5. Develops/monitors individualized treatment plans .

    6. Documents client progress toward goals and objectives, re-assessment of needs, quality and timeliness of interventions, and their outcomes.  Documentation includes at a minimum progress notes in DAP format, treatment plans and updates, case notes, program forms, incident reports, and letters of progress as assigned. 

    7. Provides individual, group, and family therapy; home based services; and other clinical services as assigned.

    8. Attends training and supervision as assigned. 

    9. Maintains professional quality client records and performs administrative duties associated with cases in a timely and accurate manner (e.g. UR functions, billing, performance measures, etc.) 

    10. Upholds applicable Code of Ethics (e.g. NASW, ACA, APA).

    11. Available for 24-hour crisis intervention as needed or directed. 

    12. Additional duties as assigned.
