The Position

Key Responsibilities

Demand and Supply Planning:

  • Is the owner of IMP supply chain of Roche/Genentech products
  • Demand and Supply Planning, inventory management, and distribution requirement planning in SAP/APO/OMP and CLARA for IMPs (development material, commercial material, comparators, partner products, etc.); including API/DS, Conjugation, Drug Product, Semi-Finished and Finished Good
  • Adjust and adapt near, mid and long-range Demand and Supply Plan based on assumptions provided by Clinical Operations, proving proactive analysis of risks, costs, and feasibility
  • Collaborate with other functions and teams (e.g. Technical Development Teams, Clinical Core Teams, Study Management Teams, and other technical team for commercial products, partner products, or in-licensed products) as the primary contact for clinical supply related topics
  • Collaborate with customers early in protocol ideation to recommend study design characteristics that could support supply chain optimization and/or PVC savings
  • Ensure alignment of key activities & timelines of cross-functional team to successfully set up and supply each clinical trial, this includes maintaining oversight on performance, issues and their resolution to ensure study supplies are provided in line with the agreed scope of work and timelines
  • Create, maintain, validate, and adapt molecule and clinical trial demand forecasts and supply chain/distribution strategy in SAP/APO, and CLARA based
  • Forecast, plan, communicate, and initiate procurement of OSD / comparator drug as required
  • Consider and incorporate all regulatory & quality relevant requirements and changes for clinical trial material into supply plan
  • Owner of drug supply related budget planning for IMP

Supply Chain Expertise:

  • Is responsible for supply chain optimization and/or simulation techniques (e.g. simulation to inform selection of clinical trial characteristics or optimize trial supply plan)
  • Ownership of various Clinical Supply Chain business processes and/or related systems; leading cross-functional teams as required driving business improvement, influencing change, and ensuring global process integration
  • Take on semi-dedicated roles as appropriate (e.g. subject matter expert, systems superuser, single point of contact, etc.)
  • Share best practice examples with global Planning team

Leadership, Stakeholder Management, and Customer Centricity:

  • Embraces VACC leadership and employs agile ways of working
  • Primary contact for clinical supply related topics including but not limited to clinical operations, biostatistics, procurement, science, regulatory, quality, IT, vendors / external partners, affiliates, etc.
  • Stakeholder manager for Technical Development Team and Clinical Program Lead (i.e. OPL) to ensure alignment with molecule Clinical Development Plan and member of the Clinical Core Team (Research and Early Development, Pharma Development including Medical Affairs), when required
  • Acting as an ad-hoc member of study teams to communicate updates on relevant forecast and planning activities up to technical release of IMP at the production sites (including CMOs)
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with key external partners to ensure effective communication of demand and supply topics
  • Regularly maintains and optimizes drug supply budget planning

Competencies

  • Solid understanding of clinical trial design, drug technical development, drug demand forecasting and supply planning techniques, IRT functionalities
  • Knowledge of and interest in supply chain optimization and simulation
  • Strong knowledge of GMP manufacturing, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, budget planning, and clinical operations for large and small molecules and devices
  • Ability to extrapolate limited inputs to overall impact
  • Strong analytical, logic and problem solving skills, with advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Proven ability to lead process improvement activities, delivering business processes and/or technical solutions satisfying multiple sets of stakeholders
  • Detail oriented with strong planning, organization, and time-management skills to juggle needs of multiple teams and projects simultaneously and employ effective prioritization
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills, including ability to simplify what is complex and focus audience on key messages
  • Confident stakeholder management and customer focus generating actions driven by internal/external customer needs and earning respect from customers
  • Ability to positively influence key decision-makers and to negotiate for optimal results
  • Collaborative and agile mindset, actively looking to make contributions to cross-functional teams and to develop self-directed team organization
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and lead ad hoc teams. Self-motivated, proactive, quick thinking and adaptable
  • Show good judgment in determining objectives and approaches to assignments
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel) and Google Workspace
  • Excellent written / oral communication in English, German may be a plus
  • Ability to travel within region and internationally (up to 10%)

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of related experience in Clinical Supply Chain, Clinical Operations, Planning, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, or other Supply Chain discipline, preferably in the Biotechnology / Pharmaceutical industry; minimum of 4 years with a Master’s Degree
  • Work experience in the GMP environment (e.g. pharmaceutical or food industry) or in equivalent supply chain functions
  • ERP system experience, e.g. SAP (incl. S4HANA), OMP or APO and IRT preferred
  • Experience in project management and in a cross-functional and cross-cultural environment
  • Experience in global supply chain or related project team environment

Education

  • Academic degree or equivalent diploma, preferably in Life Sciences, Business (Economics, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management) or Engineering
  • Supply chain certification is a plus (e.g. APICS, CPIM, CSCP)
