- Draw on economic data, company and industry research, and external perspectives to develop differentiated insights and independent views.
- Place developments in China within a broader regional and global context where relevant.
Investment Partnership
- Bring macroeconomic perspectives to company, industry and thematic discussions, while using bottom-up investment research to challenge and refine macro views.
- Support fixed income investors on China-related macroeconomic, policy and market questions.
Broader CSR Contributions
- Build strong relationships across CSR and the Investment Group, acting as a connector across teams and geographies.
- Contribute to broader CSR research, global outlook work and relevant Greater China research trips.
- Participate in Capital Group outreach efforts, including relevant client-facing work.
- Advance CSR’s economic analysis by contributing original frameworks, datasets and research approaches, while maintaining high research standards and sound judgment.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated passion for economics and responding to investor-relevant questions, with a clear desire to build a career as a buy-side economist.
- Master’s or PhD in a relevant discipline preferred.
- 5–10 years of relevant professional experience, with deep expertise in China’s economy and policymaking environment.
- Strong economic judgment and ability to develop differentiated views from incomplete or imperfect information.
- Demonstrated ability to connect economic and policy developments to their implications for investors.
- Strong understanding of China’s complex political and policy environment and its implications for the economy and investors.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; Mandarin Chinese proficiency is preferred.
- Self-directed, intellectually curious and collaborative; willing to formulate and defend independent views while incorporating feedback.
