About the Role

AIA Reinsurance Limited ("AIA Re"), a Bermuda licensed reinsurer and wholly owned subsidiary of AIA Group Limited ("AIA"), provides reinsurance solutions to AIA Group entities.
The Head of Operations and Senior Actuary is responsible for leading AIA Re's pricing and underwriting function and overseeing the effective day-to-day operation of the Bermuda office. The role manages the Bermuda-based team, coordinates delivery across Group functions and service providers, and supports the Group Director of Reinsurance, AIA Re executive management and the Board in executing AIA Re's approved strategy, business plan and regulatory obligations.
The role operates within delegated authorities and established governance frameworks and is accountable for the effective execution of approved business activities, operational oversight, regulatory coordination and stakeholder management. Ultimate legal entity governance, strategic direction and statutory accountability remain with the Board and accountable executives.
The role may be appointed to regulated functions or statutory positions, including Principal Representative or other approved roles, subject to Board approval and regulatory consent where required.

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Pricing, Underwriting and Transaction Execution

  • Lead and manage AIA Re's pricing and underwriting activities.
  • Oversee reinsurance transactions from structuring and pricing through execution, implementation and post-transaction performance monitoring.
  • Evaluate and recommend reinsurance structures and risk transfer solutions consistent with approved risk appetite, capital objectives and business strategy.
  • Ensure robust pricing methodologies, underwriting standards, controls and governance processes are maintained.
  • Monitor market developments and assess implications for reinsurance pricing, capacity and transaction opportunities.
  • Conduct treaty performance analysis and recommend enhancements to underwriting practices and portfolio management.
  • Support development and implementation of new asset, product, underwriting and risk management capabilities in collaboration with relevant Group functions.
  • Promote effective use of technology, data and process automation to improve operational efficiency, reporting and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Risk, Investment, Treasury and Actuarial functions to ensure AIA Re's frameworks remain appropriate for the underlying portfolio risk profile.

2. AIA Re Operations and Legal Entity Coordination

  • Oversee the effective day-to-day operation of the Bermuda office.
  • Support development of annual business plans and operating budgets and oversee execution against approved plans and priorities.
  • Coordinate activities across Group functions, outsourced service providers and other key stakeholders supporting AIA Re's operations.
  • Oversee performance and governance of outsourced functions, third-party service providers and intra-group service arrangements, ensuring compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and monitor the entity governance calendar and key operational deliverables.
  • Coordinate preparation of Board, Committee and management materials to support effective governance and oversight.
  • Coordinate implementation and tracking of Board and Committee decisions, ensuring timely completion of agreed actions and escalation of delays or issues where appropriate.
  • Support the maintenance and effective operation of the Company's governance framework, including delegated authorities, management committees and governance reporting.
  • Develop and maintain management information, key performance indicators and operational reporting to support effective oversight and decision-making.
  • Oversee operational resilience, business continuity planning and operational readiness.
  • Review and recommend operational contracts and service arrangements, or approve such arrangements within delegated authority.
  • Promote the efficient deployment of resources and recommend operational improvements where appropriate.

3. Governance, Risk and Regulatory Support

  • Support the Group Director of Reinsurance, AIA Re executive management and the Board in fulfilling their governance and oversight responsibilities.
  • Support development of strategic priorities and lead execution of approved business initiatives.
  • Coordinate and contribute to Bermuda Monetary Authority ("BMA") regulatory filings, statutory reporting and management reporting requirements.
  • Act as a principal management contact for the BMA on operational, underwriting and governance matters within the established regulatory engagement framework.
  • Support and, where appropriate, lead regulatory engagements, supervisory reviews and information requests in accordance with approved governance protocols.
  • Monitor regulatory obligations and track remediation activities arising from audits, reviews, examinations and supervisory engagements.
  • Support compliance with the Bermuda Insurance Code of Conduct and all applicable legal, regulatory and internal policy requirements.
  • Maintain business process documentation and ensure appropriate operational procedures and controls are maintained.
  • Oversee identification, assessment and management of operational risks and controls across Bermuda operations and service providers.
  • Escalate material risks, control weaknesses, regulatory issues, policy breaches and emerging concerns in a timely manner.
  • Support maintenance of effective risk management, control and reporting frameworks across the business.
  • Represent AIA Re on relevant internal committees and industry forums as required.

4. People Leadership and Stakeholder Management

  • Lead, manage, coach and develop the Bermuda-based team.
  • Ensure appropriate team capacity, capability and succession planning to support evolving business requirements.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement and sound risk management.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships across AIA Group, regulators, service providers and other key stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership and coordination across local activities while ensuring alignment with Group objectives, governance standards and risk appetite.
  • Attend Executive Committee, Board and Board Committee meetings as required, by invitation, or in connection with assigned responsibilities.
