THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for planning, organizing and directing all financial aspects of IHI and its affiliates, as well as collaborating with and assisting the Chief Operations Officer with the strategic planning of the Center. The organization is experiencing continued growth and development of new programs and services while maintaining a strong commitment to quality, patient access, and financial stewardship.

What You Will Do

The CFO serves as a key member of the executive leadership team and will play a central role in shaping organizational strategy, overseeing financial operations, guiding investments and risk management, supporting federal and state program compliance, and ensuring the financial resources necessary to sustain and expand the organization's mission. This opportunity is ideally suited for a values-driven leader who is energized by complex healthcare environments and motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patients, providers, and the communities served.

The ideal Chief Financial Officer will be a strategic and operational finance executive who combines deep healthcare financial expertise with a collaborative leadership style. This individual will bring at least ten years of progressive healthcare and nonprofit financial leadership experience, including significant responsibility for revenue cycle management, reimbursement strategy, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls. A CPA and accomplished business partner, the successful candidate will be equally comfortable presenting complex financial matters to the Board of Directors and Finance Committee as they are working alongside operational and clinical leaders to evaluate new programs, improve organizational performance, and advance the long-term sustainability of the organization. The ideal executive will be recognized for developing high-performing teams, exercising sound judgment, maintaining rigorous compliance standards, and translating financial data into clear, actionable business insights.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.     Oversees and further develops a high-performing team that provides a broad range of financial functions, including accounting and reporting, budgeting, revenue cycle management, pricing, treasury and payer relations.  Establishes performance plans and goals for direct reports and their teams and evaluate outcomes annually.

2.     Provides strategic financial oversight aimed at strengthening the climate of accountability for financial performance, affordability of care and mission.

3.     Sets standards of performance for department personnel, ensure adherence to all company philosophies, procedures, and regulations.  Oversees departmental policy and procedure development and review.

4.     Facilitates and enhances the use of business intelligence, including key performance indicators and metrics, to provide business insight and better decision-making.

5.     Directs all general accounting functions including annual financial audits, tax filings and financial reporting and analysis.

6.     Provides executive leadership and oversight of the organization's revenue cycle operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant reimbursement for services rendered.

7.     Leads the strategic planning process for the Center’s long-term and annual financial planning and budget cycles.  Monitors departmental budgetary performance.

8.     Provides direction to all management staff related to the performance of financial management matters.

9.     Serves as collaborative partner with senior leadership team to establish and monitor a wide range of strategic, financial, operational, clinical and administrative goals.

10.  Establishes and maintain relationships with vendors and pharmaceutical manufacturers and related contracts.  Leads organizational procurement initiatives.

11.  Participates in the development of new programs and services, specifically:  Assists the Executive Leadership team in analyzing prospective opportunities, drafting prospective programmatic budgets and determining cost effectiveness.

12.  Develops and maintains systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the organization and oversee Federal and State awards and programs.  Ensures compliance with the organization’s policies and procedures.

13.  Oversees the internal audit function, ensuring independent assessment of financial, operational, and compliance risks and timely remediation of audit findings.

14.  Interacts with Board of Directors and Finance Committee regarding financial statements, investments (both Corporate and IHI-sponsored retirement accounts) and their performance.

15.  Maintains banking relationships and credit facilities.

16.  Oversees business insurance plans and collaborates on employee benefit plan design and administration.

17.  Reviews billing and collection reports and makes corrective recommendations.

18.  Oversees the maintenance of the inventory of all fixed assets.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: N/A

TRAVEL: Minimal travel required for business meetings and conferences.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Position is in a well-lighted, professional office environment. 

MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Combination of sitting, standing and walking.  Occasional stress in balancing multiple demands and workload.

Requirements

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree, preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in healthcare and nonprofit organizations, required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with oversight responsibility of revenue cycle management, required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Licensed Certified Public Accountant in good standing

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge:

1.     Principles of financial management sufficient to direct professional staff and coordinate all aspects involved with fiscal requirements.

2.     Financial and budgetary practices to develop annual budget, analyze financial data and patterns and prepare financial statements.

3.     Strategic business objectives and employee performance objectives.

4.     Governmental and healthcare fiscal regulations and reporting requirements.

5.     Principles of medical billing sufficient to direct staff and assess compliance with regulatory guidelines and performance of department.

6.     Public and Private health insurance concepts, contracts and enrollments.

Skills

1.     Exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and decision-making to achieve objectives.

2.     Evaluating operations as they relate to policies, goals, objectives and costs.

3.     Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

4.     Identifying and resolving accounting and financial problems.

All IHI employees are expected to enable multi-factor authentication via their personal smart phone/smart device in order to access IHI systems as a requirement of the role.  

This position is open to residents of the State of Indiana, and requires routine presence at our Center in Indianapolis, IN. Frequency of on-site presence is dependent upon role and department needs.
