About This Opportunity 

The University of Queensland School of Dentistry is seeking expressions of interest from casual academics to be engaged on a casual basis.

Casual Academics at the School of Dentistry play a significant part in the overall student experience and assist in the teaching and delivery of both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Responsibilities as a Casual Academic may include (but are not limited to):  

• Preparing and delivering guest lecturers, workshops, seminars and tutorials.
• Undertaking marking of assessment tasks, as directed by course coordinators, with hours for marking to be confirmed by School Administration staff prior to commencing marking.

Casual academic positions are based at both the Herston and St Lucia Campuses and successful appointees may be required to attend on campus.

Our Ideal Candidate 

The School welcomes applications from candidates who possess appropriate qualifications and experience within the dental industry. High-achieving postgraduate coursework and research higher degree students are also invited to apply.

What We Can Offer 

These are casual positions. As such, there is no firm advance commitment to ongoing or indefinite work. The casual hourly rate can be viewed here.

All Casual Academics are required to comply with legislation and University policy relevant to the duties undertaken, including but not exclusive to: 

• The University’s Code of Conduct. 
• Requirements of the Queensland occupational health and safety (OH&S) legislation and related OH&S responsibilities and procedures developed by the University or Institute/School. 
• The adoption of sustainable practices in all work activities and compliance with associated legislation and related University sustainability responsibilities and procedures. 
• Requirements of the Education Services  for Overseas Students Act 2000, the National Code 2007 and associated legislation, and related responsibilities and procedures developed by the University. 

About the School of Dentistry

The UQ School of Dentistry has a long and proud tradition of over 80 years of strength in dental education and research and attracts high achieving students nationally and internationally. UQ is a leading source of expertise in the local, national, and international dental community and has been a key contributor to achieving effective solutions to contemporary issues and challenges. The School has strong collaborations within and outside the dental profession.

As part of the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences, the School of Dentistry offers the Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours) program and specialist post-graduate programs Doctor of Clinical Dentistry and the Doctor of Dental Medicine. The School of Dentistry also has a growing cohort of research higher degree students.
