Cabin Convention Madrichim play a key role in the success of BBYO by working closely with teens during camp conventions. This is an amazing opportunity to make an impact in the local Jewish community by empowering Jewish teens to do great things.

You want to give your time in a way that will impact the community by developing teen leaders through Jewish programming, helping them navigate their high school years, and help them become adults that care about the world around them. You’re an effective relationship builder and communicator with good judgment and a “can do” attitude.

We’re a global network of passionate volunteers and professional staff that are excited to make a difference in the lives of Jewish teens. We are the Jewish community’s largest and fastest growing pluralistic platform for reaching and inspiring Jewish teens during the school-year with 700 teen-led local chapters and over 100 weekend retreats along with a plethora of summer experiences including Israel visits, global travel programs and leadership camps. We are fast-paced, high energy and results-driven. 

Madrich(a) Requirements: 

• Must be at least one year post high school graduation. 

• Be able and willing to supervise teens anytime the teens are in cabin, stay in cabin all night, and be present at any moments teens have free time in the cabins (this includes chofesh, shower time, etc.).   

• All madrichim must complete the required background check and training before they can work with BBYO teens and serve as a madrich(a).  

Responsibilities may include: 

Participant Supervision 

• Providing active supervision of participants throughout the Event. 

• Residing in lodging accommodations with teen participants during overnight Events. 

• Monitoring participant safety, conduct, and well-being. 

• Supporting enforcement of Event rules, behavioral expectations, and safety protocols. 

• Reporting any concerning teen behavior, Code of Conduct, or safety violation to full-time BBYO staff.  

Youth Safety and Welfare 

• Promoting a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment. 

• Promptly addressing health, safety, behavioral, or emergency concerns. 

• Reporting incidents, injuries, allegations, or safety concerns according to Organization procedures. 

• Complying with all youth protection, anti-harassment, and safeguarding policies. 

• Conduct room/cabin checks as assigned. 

• Maintain awareness of participant whereabouts and safety. 

Event Operations 

• Supporting program activities as assigned. 

• Assisting with emergency procedures and crisis response. 

Professional Conduct 

• Acting as a positive role model for participants. 

• Maintaining professional boundaries with participants. 

• Following all Organization policies and Event guidelines. 

Madrich(a) Expectations: 

• Uphold and enforce the BBYO Code of Conduct, and report any violations to BBYO full-time staff 

• Supervise teens anytime the teens are in cabin, stay in cabin all night, and be present at any moments teens have free time in the cabins (this includes chofesh, shower time, etc.).   

• For cabins designed with a staff area, madrichim cannot be in the staff area with a closed door. The door must be open at all times (except when staff is changing) and staff must be able to hear and see all activity in the cabin.  

• Support staffing and supervision needs during program hours throughout the convention weekend. 

• Avoid actions that create an unsafe environment, such as irresponsible or potentially hazardous behavior.  

• Physical, verbal, emotional, or mental abuse of, or threats toward a teen, staff, advisor, or guest is prohibited.  

Compensation varies based on location, most pay $200+ per weekend.

Required Qualifications 

• Successfully complete any required background check. 

• Successfully complete policy sign-off within the Volunteer Management system. 

• Complete all required youth protection and safety trainings (Child Abuse Prevention and Mandated Reporter Training Series – 3 Videos). 

• Attend any pre-event staff virtual orientation or training  

• Immediately disclose any circumstance that may impact their ability to safely fulfill their responsibilities.
