Lethbridge School Division is seeking Casual Caretakers to provide relief coverage at Division schools. Casual Caretakers work under the general supervision of the Head Caretaker or designate and are responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment for students, staff, and community members.
The majority of shifts are scheduled during the evening hours; however, day shifts may occasionally be required.
Typical duties of a Caretaker include but are not limited to:
- Performing the cleaning duties throughout the school, such as:
- Thorough cleaning of all washrooms, fixtures, partitions, and shower areas
- Washing of all desks, counters, doors, windows, etc.
- All dusting in the school
- Mopping, vacuuming, and waxing of floors
- Securing of Division buildings
- Preventative maintenance, lock downs, fire drills, and changing lights
- Snow and ice removal from walkways
- Following Division policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- Operating cleaning equipment and use cleaning products safely and effectively.
- Working independently and manage assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
- Supporting a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and community users.
The successful applicant will be self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Candidates must demonstrate strong attention to detail, a commitment to cleanliness and safety, and the ability to communicate effectively while dealing courteously and tactfully with students, staff, and the public. Applicants must be reliable, flexible, and dependable, with the ability to safely handle a variety of cleaning products and chemicals. The position requires the ability to perform the physical demands of caretaking work, including lifting and moving furniture, equipment, and supplies, as well as climbing stairs and ladders. Previous caretaking experience will be considered an asset.
Our schools are active community hubs that continue to be used after regular school hours. As a result, caretakers regularly interact with students, staff, and community user groups. Successful candidates will be team-oriented professionals who build positive relationships and contribute to a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained learning environment for all users of the school.

Available Locations:
- Various locations - on call relief work - shift lengths range from 2 - 8 hours per day - commencing immediately
Requirements
Fitness and Abilities
- Sufficient sight and hearing to perform related job duties
- Able to stand or walk for extended periods
- Able to lift and carry up to 22 kg independently and 22-31.5 kg with assistance
- Able to work in a highly active physical environment
- Able to work with a variety of chemicals
- Must be physically capable of performing heavy manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions
Assets
- A high School Diploma or equivalent
- A valid 5th Class Power Engineering Certificate or equivalent

Conditions of Employment
In accordance with Canadian Immigration requirements, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given preference.
In order to ensure and maintain a safe and secure working and learning environment, applicants new to Lethbridge School Division who are offered employment must provide:
- A police information check; including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions.
- A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
- Proof of photo identification in the employee's current legal name, may be a valid driver’s licence, provincial identification card as issued by a licensed government registry office, valid passport or Nexus card. If one cannot be provided, a new card must be obtained and proof of application provided within three days of hire
- Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s current legal name. If valid Social Insurance documentation in the current legal name can not be provided, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a new one within three days of hire.
