What you will do

Ready to help transform the future of energy infrastructure? Join Johnson Controls as a Building Automation Integration Engineer and play a key role in delivering innovative OpenBlue Central Utility Plant (CUP) solutions for district energy plants across the globe.

In this impactful role, you will lead the integration and commissioning of complex CUP projects from initial planning through successful completion. Working directly with customers, you'll drive project execution, ensure implementation milestones are achieved, and deliver world-class solutions that optimize energy performance and operational efficiency.

This is a remote position for candidates based in the United States that are will to travel up to 50%.

How you will do it

• Assess central utility plants and developing detailed drawings, specifications, and scopes of work for sensors, metering, controls upgrades, and recommissioning activities required to support OpenBlue CUP implementation.
• Create and executing comprehensive integration test plans to ensure seamless bidirectional communication and command flow between the OpenBlue CUP platform and plant automation systems, in partnership with controls service contractors.
• Lead point mapping, system configuration, and automation programming activities to ensure smooth transitions between operating modes and optimal plant performance.
• Validate system functionality, analyzing command execution results, and proactively troubleshooting issues throughout the commissioning and startup process.
• Build strong customer relationships by facilitating regular project updates, providing technical guidance, and serving as a trusted advisor throughout implementation.
• Train plant operators and end users to confidently leverage OpenBlue CUP capabilities, helping drive adoption and long-term operational success.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and in alignment with customer expectations.

What you will need
Required

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar discipline.
• 5+ year of experience in building automation controls engineering, programming, and commissioning.
• Experience in the integration of low voltage building sub-systems using industry standard protocols
• (i.e. BACnet, Modbus, LON etc.).
• Experience engineering and implementing central utility plant control sequences.
• Experience in leading plant automation startup and commissioning in a live operating critical facility for at least 5 projects.
• Ability for up to 50% domestic travel.

Preferred

• Master’s degree or Professional Engineer Registration.
• Strong background in Metasys suite of tools.
• Programming capability for multiple makes/models of building automation systems (BAS) and programmable logic control (PLC) system.

SALARY RANGE: $90,000 - $140,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)  This position includes a competitive benefits package.
