Operate and Manage Boiler to supply plant with consistent steam.Roles and responsibilities:
- Safely operate Coal Boilers and associated equipment efficiently. Quality standards and quantity requirements on time as per the scheduled production plan
- Monitor boiler performance
- Measure performance attributes, e.g., coal quality, performance of soot blowing, ID and FD fans, etc
- Monitor trends of performance attributes, e.g., flue gas temperature, amount of coal used to produce kilograms of coal
- Apply OHS procedures
- Maintain workplace safety, housekeeping and risk-free standards. Specifically, 5S in the boiler house and yard
- Optimize production performance
- Operate plant and process equipment
- Monitor processes and interpret production plan to manage steam demand
- Maintain the utilities operation Report plant, machine and process problems using the shift log sheet
- Conduct operator breakdown maintenance tasks
- Prepare boilers for government inspections, annual maintenance as well as routine maintenance tasks
- Receiving of coal and doing visual inspection at delivery as well as reporting of coal combustion after delivery, e.g., unburnt coal, ash quality
Measured on:
- Boiler efficiency
- Boiler safety compliance
- Kilograms of coal used to make kilograms of steam
- 5S and general housekeeping
- Adherence to boiler start up and operational checks
- Accurate recording of boiler performance by shift on boiler log sheets
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric or equivalent
- Boiler certificate of competency (eg. John Thompson)
- Medical certificate of fitness
- 3 years previous experience in a Boiler Operator role
- Computer literacy
