Job Description:

Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Adjunct Faculty member is teaching.  We are seeking adjunct instructors for the following course at Keck Graduate Institute (KGI):

ENG 5140 Bioseparations Engineering and Science (Spring, 1.5 credits)

Course Description:

The course involves application of scientific principles and engineering practices for efficient separation and purification of biomolecules. Fundamentals of various unit operations, such as centrifugation, filtration, membrane separations and chromatography, are discussed. Performance evaluation of unit operations is conducted with the help of mathematical equations. Various case studies for purification of proteins, enzymes, monoclonal antibodies, vaccines and gene therapy related products are discussed. Knowledge of mass balance, basic algebra, calculus, and principles of mass transfer required.

The successful candidate must share in the mission of KGI and the Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences Programs. The Adjunct Faculty member reports directly to the Dean of Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences and works collaboratively with the Program Directors and other faculty.

Located in beautiful Claremont, California, Keck Graduate Institute is a member of the prestigious Claremont Colleges, a consortium of five undergraduate liberal arts colleges, two graduate institutions, and The Claremont Colleges Services, which provide shared institutional support services.

Education and Experience:

Minimum of a Master’s degree in a related field. A doctoral degree is strongly preferred. Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience. Prior experience in teaching for active learning preferred. Experience with the Canvas learning management system is a plus.

  • Provides high-quality student instruction

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.

Hours, Classification, and Status: 

This is a part-time, exempt, adjunct faculty position and is not eligible for benefits.

Schedules will vary depending on course assignments and the needs of the department or the Institute.

The base salary range for this position is $2,500 - $15,000 per semester, depending on credits per course.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Ability to maintain good concentration level while dealing with interruptions; attention to details with emphasis on accuracy; capable of giving, receiving, and analyzing information, formulating work plans, and articulating goals and action plans.  Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time.  Standing for extended periods of time. Reaching and extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.  Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than the whole hand(s), or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.  Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters.  Ability to hear within normal parameters.  Ability to bend and stoop, for example, to file.  Ability to move about.  Ability to lift and carry short distances up to 20 lbs., for example to lift or move office supplies, files, books and packages. 

Ability to travel locally, depending on business needs.
