Big Ten Fellow

USC Athletics is seeking a Big Ten Fellow to join its community of staff members and student-athletes.

 

USC Athletics’ Big Ten Fellowship provides an entry-level opportunity to gain hands-on administrative experience within a Big Ten athletics department. The program is designed to expand access to careers in intercollegiate athletics while supporting participants’ professional development, leadership skills, and career goals.

 

Reporting to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development, the Big Ten Fellow Intern will collaborate with the Student-Athlete Development team and other areas within USC Athletics. The Fellow will assist with day-to-day departmental operations and programs that support the personal and professional development, career preparation, and skill development of USC student-athletes.

 

The fellowship provides hands-on experience in athletics administration, with a primary focus on student-athlete development programming and exposure to various functions of a collegiate athletics department.

 

Knowledge of or experience working in higher education or intercollegiate athletics is preferred. An understanding of the unique culture and needs of Division I student-athletes is also preferred.

This position serves a large student and staff population, must demonstrate a commitment to improving outcomes for a variety of populations, and is expected to contribute to the program’s demonstrated commitment to non-discrimination and equal opportunity for all.

This is a non-exempt position with work expected to be performed in person.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

·Creates and manages content across social media platforms, including Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and emerging platforms, to support Athletics’ digital presence.

·Captures and edits photo and video content using mobile and other available technology for use across departmental channels.

·Collects, analyzes, and summarizes data for formative and summative reporting, including developing surveys and forms using tools such as Google Forms.

·Designs graphics and edits video content using tools such as Canva Pro to support marketing, communications, and promotional materials.

·Monitors departmental email correspondence and prepares documents, reports, presentations, and other materials using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related applications.

·Participates in the development, implementation, and execution of projects, programs, events, and committees that advance student-athlete development initiatives.

·Researches and recommends strategies related to best practices, emerging trends, and policy considerations affecting student-athlete development initiatives.

·Collaborates with Athletics colleagues and campus partners on events, programs, and initiatives that support Trojan Athletics and programming for student-athletes and employees.

·Assists with the execution of the Trojan Student-Athlete Development Unit Operating Plan and preparation of the unit’s year-end report.

·Develops professional relationships and engages, as appropriate, with the NCAA, Big Ten Conference, campus partners, and other professional organizations in support of student-athlete development goals and initiatives.

·Assists with additional projects and administrative responsibilities that provide exposure to the operations and functions of an intercollegiate athletics department.

·Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Minimum Qualifications

·Bachelor’s degree.

·Excellent oral and written communication skills.

·Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

·Proficiency with word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and email applications.

·Ability to collect, organize, analyze, and summarize data and develop surveys and forms.

·Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

·Ability to manage multiple assignments, priorities, and deadlines.

·Ability to collaborate effectively with student-athletes, coaches, staff, administrators, campus partners, and external organizations.

·Experience working in higher education, intercollegiate athletics, student-athlete development, or a related environment.

·Knowledge of collegiate athletics and the unique culture and developmental needs of Division I student-athletes.

·Experience developing digital or social media content.

·Experience with graphic-design and video-editing tools such as Canva Pro.

·Experience creating surveys, collecting data, and preparing reports or presentations.

·Demonstrated interest in pursuing or further developing a career in intercollegiate athletics administration.

Driving Requirement

A valid driver’s license and participation in the University’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System may be required if driving is an assigned responsibility of the position. If required, a satisfactory DMV record will be a final condition of employment in accordance with applicable University policy.

Compensation

The hourly rate for this position is $25.00 per hour.
