THE OPPORTUNITY
The Aviation Planner will help airport sponsors and project teams make informed decisions about capacity, facilities, access, land use, and long-term development. The role blends technical analysis, clear communication, and stakeholder engagement across master plans, system plans, airport layout plans, feasibility studies, and related planning assignments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support airport master plans, system plans, airport layout plans, feasibility studies, and facility-programming efforts
- Analyze aviation activity, capacity, delay, facility requirements, alternatives, land use, and ground access
- Prepare forecasts, technical memoranda, planning reports, graphics, presentations, and public-facing materials
- Apply current FAA planning guidance, design standards, grant requirements, and sponsor criteria
- Coordinate with airport staff, agencies, airlines, tenants, engineers, architects, and community stakeholders
- Use GIS, spreadsheets, databases, and planning tools to organize and interpret technical information
- Support public meetings, stakeholder workshops, and presentations to boards or agencies
- Manage assigned tasks, schedules, budgets, and quality reviews across multiple projects
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Aviation Planning, Urban or Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related field; master's degree preferred
- 4+ years of aviation, transportation, infrastructure, or public-sector planning experience
- Familiarity with FAA airport master planning guidance and airport design standards
- Strong quantitative analysis, technical writing, presentation, and facilitation skills
- Proficiency with GIS and Microsoft Office; aviation forecasting or simulation experience is a plus
- AICP certification or progress toward certification preferred
- Ability to travel for site visits, workshops, and client meetings
