At the heart of this role is applied chemistry. You'll be working with liquid purification components - calculating, formulating, and scaling solutions that meet precise scientific specifications. You will be the person who understands why a buffer behaves the way it does, and how to adjust it when requirements change.

As an Associated Staff Scientist, you will collaborate closely with our (Senior) Staff Scientists, production teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to translate chemistry into reliable, scalable, real-world outcomes.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

• Formulating and calculating with precision: computing molar masses, pH, conductivity, and density conversions for liquid purification components, from small lab-scale batches right through to reactor-scale volumes of up to 1,000 kg
• Adapting chemistry to meet evolving requirements: modifying buffer and solution compositions in response to product, process, or raw material changes, ensuring scientific integrity is maintained throughout
• Scaling up with confidence: translating lab-scale chemistry into production-ready processes, understanding how chemical behaviour changes at scale and mitigating risks accordingly
• Driving continuous improvement: applying Six Sigma methodologies to identify and reduce inefficiencies in chemical preparation and purification processes
• Documenting your chemistry: drafting and maintaining SOPs, technical work instructions, and supporting documentation that accurately capture formulation logic and procedural steps
• Collaborating on raw material challenges: working with Procurement to evaluate alternative raw materials and assess their chemical suitability as direct replacements
• Working safely with hazardous materials:  applying rigorous safety practices and supporting compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 quality standards

About You

Essential:

• University degree (WO) or applied sciences degree (HBO) in (Bio-)Chemistry, Chemistry
• Completion of Six Sigma / Green Belt training
• Demonstrable hands-on experience in solution preparation: mixing reagents, calculating molar masses, adjusting pH and conductivity, and working with density-based volume-to-mass conversions
• Confidence in modifying chemical formulations in response to specification changes or raw material substitutions
• Strong English proficiency, written and spoken

Preferred:

• Experience scaling chemical processes from lab-scale to production-scale
• Familiarity with controlled documentation environments and translating chemistry into production-ready SOPs
• Knowledge of safety protocols for hazardous materials and working understanding of ISO 13485 requirements
