Purpose of the role

To provide data-led expert oversight and check and challenge on business and compliance matters to evidence that the organisation is operating in a compliance with Barclays legal, regulatory and ethical responsibilities. 

Accountabilities

• Identification and assessment of compliance risks through thorough reviews of business activities, changes, processes, testing and systems to.
• Identification and investigation of potential market abuse, including but not limited to, Insider Dealing, Unlawful Disclosure, Market Manipulation or Anti-Competitive Conduct.
• Conduct investigation of compliance risk events or breaches. Oversight and check and challenge of corrective actions and preventative measures to avoid future occurrences.
• Implementation of compliance policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements and ensuring that the bank’s internal policies are aligned with international standards, including jurisdictional requirements.
• Collaboration with 1LOD, other relevant Compliance teams and legal, and relevant risk management functions to facilitate a comprehensive approach to compliance and risk management.
• Identification, investigation and oversight of potential money laundering, terrorist financing or other financial crime.

Join us as an Assistant Vice President – Corporate Banking Business Oversight Compliance, Barclays Bank India, where you will provide independent second-line oversight of Compliance and Reputation risks arising from the Corporate Banking business in India. You will partner with local, regional and global Compliance teams to proactively identify, assess, challenge and mitigate risks, provide clear risk-based advice and guardrails for business and product initiatives, and support sustainable growth within risk appetite.

To be successful in this role, you should:

• Develop a strong understanding of Corporate Banking strategy, products, client segments, processes, risks, controls and the relevant regulatory environment.
• Provide risk-based advice and independent check and challenge on business activities, complex transactions, client matters and regulatory requirements.
• Proactively identify Compliance and Reputation risks arising from strategic, product, technology and operating-model changes, and establish appropriate risk guardrails.
• Assess and challenge first-line risk assessments, control design, remediation plans and management responses, escalating material risks where required.
• Lead or support new product governance, regulatory change, risk monitoring, testing, thematic reviews and targeted deep dives.
• Use regulatory developments, incidents, breaches, complaints, risk assessments and management information to identify emerging risks and drive preventive action.
• Support regulatory examinations, audits, information requests and regulatory engagements, ensuring responses are accurate, timely and appropriately evidenced.
• Represent Compliance at relevant business, product, risk and control forums, providing a forward-looking view of key risks and required actions.
• Track issues, regulatory commitments and remediation actions through to sustainable closure, challenging delays or inadequate evidence.
• Demonstrate strong judgement, professional courage and the ability to challenge constructively and escalate decisively.

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

• Substantial experience in a business-facing Compliance, Risk or regulatory advisory role within a bank or regulated financial institution.
• Strong knowledge of the Indian regulatory environment, including Reserve Bank of India requirements and expectations.
• Good understanding of Corporate Banking products and services, including lending, trade and working capital, cash management, transaction banking and foreign exchange.
• Experience in assessing complex proposals and transactions and providing practical, risk-based recommendations.
• Experience in regulatory change, new product governance, monitoring/testing, issue management, regulatory engagement, audits or inspections.
• Strong analytical, stakeholder management, communication, organisation and execution skills.

Desirable Skills/Preferred Qualifications:

• Postgraduate degree or relevant professional qualification in Law, Compliance, Finance, Accounting or Risk Management.
• Experience within a global or international banking environment.
• Knowledge of Securities and Exchange Board of India requirements, where applicable.
• Experience in regulatory examinations, supervisory engagements or industry consultations.
• Experience in developing management information and conducting data-led thematic reviews or deep dives.
