The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program in the School of Health at Plymouth State University seeks a full-time 12-month faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice to support delivery of the professional curriculum. This position is primarily responsible for teaching, laboratory instruction, and coordination of selected courses across the curriculum, as well as participation in integrated clinical education experiences

The faculty member will contribute to a highly integrated, practice-oriented curriculum that combines didactic instruction with early and progressive clinical experiences, including participation in the program’s pro bono clinic. Responsibilities include course coordination, student assessment, and engagement in program assessment and continuous improvement processes consistent with accreditation standards. The position requires maintenance of contemporary clinical expertise and engagement in scholarship appropriate to a teaching-focused faculty role.

Duties/Responsibilities

Teaching and Course Coordination - 70%

  • Serve as primary instructor and/or course coordinator for assigned courses, including but not limited to Clinical & Functional Anatomy, Musculoskeletal Conditions, Patient/Client Management V, and Movement Systems

  • Deliver classroom and laboratory instruction emphasizing clinical reasoning,

  • examination, and intervention skills

  • Develop and maintain course materials, assessments, and learning activities aligned with program outcomes and accreditation standards

  • Evaluate student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback

  • Provide advising and mentoring for Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students and undergraduate Allied Health students as assigned


Profession, University, School and Program Service - 20%

  • Participate in program assessment, curriculum review, and strategic planning

  • Contribute to accreditation-related activities and documentation

  • Engage in faculty meetings and program initiatives

  • Participate in professional, university, school, and community service activities, including shared governance and engagement with professional organizations

Clinical Scholarship - 10%

  • Engage in clinical scholarship that advances the profession of physical therapy, including integration of evidence into teaching and dissemination of clinical expertise

  • Maintain contemporary expertise through clinical practice, continuing education, and professional engagement

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or equivalent entry-level physical therapy degree

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in the State of New Hampshire

  • Completion of, or Progress toward, a terminal academic doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, ScD) consistent with programmatic needs and accreditation requirement

  • Minimum of 8 years of contemporary clinical experience in physical therapy practice

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching in a graduate professional physical therapy education setting, including classroom and laboratory instruction

  • Demonstrated teaching experience in areas including but not limited to clinical anatomy, orthopedic pathology, and management of musculoskeletal, complex and cardiopulmonary cases.


Required Licenses & Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice Physical Therapy in the State of New Hampshire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Board certification in a clinical specialty relevant for the expected teaching assignment through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) (e.g., Orthopedic or Cardiopulmonary Clinical Specialist)

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills in musculoskeletal and

  • cardiopulmonary physical therapy practice

  • Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts in both classroom and laboratory settings

  • Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to mentor, instruct, and evaluate undergraduate and graduate-level students in academic and clinical environments

  • Ability to integrate evidence-based practice and contemporary clinical knowledge into teaching and learning activities

  • Commitment to inclusive, student-centered learning environments

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and clinical partners

  • Ability to adapt teaching strategies to support diverse learners and dynamic educational settings

  • Ability to perform the physical tasks associated with laboratory instruction and clinical skills demonstration

Compensation Pay Range:

$95,000 - $100,000

The rank of the selected candidate will depend upon the candidate’s qualifications.
