EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED 
Act as liaison between TCSO and community religious organizations. Recruit, train, and 
coordinate volunteer program personnel. Provide clergy support for the TCSO to include hospital visits, guidance and support.  Insure compliance with the 2000 Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA).  Recruit, train, develop and monitor programs within the jail whether religious or cognitive.  Provide counseling for inmates.   Performs other duties as assigned. 
 

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES 
Skill in desktop computer operation; in maintaining records; in interviewing; in giving 
instructions; in communications; in crisis, suicide and domestic violence intervention; and in personal counseling. Knowledge of interviewing techniques; manage and coordinate large groups of people: of interdepartmental correspondence; of departmental policies, rules and regulations; of record keeping; grief and spiritual counseling; of training others; and of personnel policies and procedures. Ability to gain respect and cooperation of others; to exercise 
initiative and independent judgement; to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to deal tactfully with others; to handle stressful situations; and to communicate effectively. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 
Responsible for supervision of program volunteer chaplains. 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 
Associate’s degree in Social Sciences, Psychology, Theology or related field or one to two years related experience and/or training: or equivalent combination of education and experience. Licensed or ordained minister with administrative training. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS 
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. 

REASONING ABILITY 
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License 
Appropriate Theology Certification

The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or 
caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Interacts 
consistently with inmates and at times must participate in physical altercations.

A.53 SAFETY SENSITIVE EMPLOYEES

(Pursuant to Oklahoma law, Title 63 O.S. section 427.8, Oklahoma Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, enacted 8/30/19)

“Safety-Sensitive” employment positions:  The Tulsa County Sheriff has designated Deputies, Detention Officers and Telecommunications Dispatchers as safety sensitive employment positions.  Safety-sensitive means any job that includes tasks or duties that could affect the safety and health of the employee performing the task and /or the health and safety of others.  The Tulsa County Sheriff retains the authority to evaluate and classify employment positions as safety-sensitive positions based upon assigned tasks and duties.

The Tulsa County Sheriff may refuse to hire an applicant applying for a safety-sensitive position who tests positive for marijuana components or metabolites. The Tulsa County Sheriff may discipline, discharge or otherwise penalize a safety-sensitive employee who tests positive for marijuana components or metabolites.
