Department Profile (IMS)

Morgan Stanley Asia Wealth Management (AWM) is an integrated business within Institutional Securities. Leveraging the Firm’s global institutional securities and wealth management footprint, and its renowned investment banking, capital markets and investment management capabilities, AWM builds holistic relationships with clients and provides them with sophisticated advice, service and products.

Investment Management Services (IMS) is responsible for AWM’s managed solutions and fee-based activity. Fee-based products include mutual funds, hedge funds, private markets and discretionary/advisory mandates. The IMS business encompasses product origination and due diligence, product approval committee, product launch coordination, product documentation, marketing, advisory and trade processing, after-sales support and product monitoring.

Based in Hong Kong, IMS is seeking a highly self-motivated professional to join its Advisory Portfolio Management (APM) team.

About the Role

The Advisory Portfolio Management (APM) professional will collaborate closely with Investment Representatives (IRs) to manage the advisory portfolios of its ultra-high net worth clients. The role interacts directly with clients on a consultative basis to deliver a wide range of market insights and advisory services. This role will provide support to the following core functions: (i) client advisory and account monitoring (ii) fund sourcing and origination (iii) transaction management (iv) business development, further elaborated below.
 

Duties & Responsibilities

Client Advisory and Account Monitoring

• Provide individualized advisory services as lead/sub-lead advisory portfolio consultant (APC) to clients across asset classes & products, with an emphasis on traditional and alternative investment funds
• Respond to client enquiries and address client feedback
• Monitor account progress and activity, including whole-account and constituent level product performance
• Deliver proactive updates and portfolio implementation advice alongside regular portfolio reviews and ongoing reporting requirements
• Prepare marketing material, proposals and presentations
   

Fund Sourcing and Origination

• Maintain a network across the asset management industry and stay abreast of new fund opportunities
• Participate in manager meetings/events with a view to generating fund ideas
• Present new investment fund opportunities to the IMS investment committee
• Collaborate with internal teams on the product onboarding lifecycle, including product approval and execution processes
   

Transaction Management

• Take client orders on APM accounts and collaborate with internal teams for trade execution
• Oversee execution, trade booking and settlement across a range of transactions (including equities, fixed income, FX, OTC derivative products, mutual funds, alternative investments and money market funds)
• Ensure transaction and account compliance with AWM policy and procedure, including product suitability checks and account maintenance requirements
• Handle inward and outward asset transfer requests
   

Business Development

• Contribute proactively to IMS business development and strategic initiatives
• Participate in franchise events and deliver institutional grade content in partnership with IMS business partners
• Continuously assess and develop business processes with the objective of enhancing advisory calibre and implementation efficiency

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

• University graduate in business-oriented disciplines
• 4-8 years of professional experience in the financial industry with an analytical background
• A strong interest in institutional research capabilities, financial markets, investment managers and economic dynamics
• Solid understanding of the wealth management industry, and acute to ongoing product and regulatory developments concerning markets and fund products in particular
• A conscientiousness about product risk principles
• Proactive self-starter with the ability to multi-task, manage within tight schedules and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Flexibility, entrepreneurial mindset and meticulousness as key success indicators 
• Abundant interpersonal skills, highly collaborative and ability to engage effectively with business stakeholders foster relationships across the investment and wealth management industry
• Excellent communication skills, including writing and public-speaking in English and Mandarin (Cantonese and other languages a plus), with an ability to distil and convey complex information in a coherent and articulate manner
• Advanced proficiency across desktop applications and an enthusiasm for AI tooling

 Licenses and Registrations

• Registered, or eligible to be registered, as HKMA Relevant Individual for Type 1 (dealing in securities) and Type 4 (advising on securities) regulated activities
• PWMA Certified Private Wealth Professional (CPWP) or certified within 12 months of employment
