This position will serve as the Fort Drum ACS Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County, providing supplemental support across Fort Drum programs, including Information & Referral, Relocation Readiness, Family Development, Financial Readiness, and Army Emergency Relief. The position will provide flexible programmatic and administrative support based on identified needs and priorities. The Fort Drum ACS Educator will assist with the planning and delivery of educational programs and activities; provide information and referrals to Soldiers and Family members; and support outreach, marketing, events, and program campaigns. The position will also assist Fort Drum Government Service program leads with administrative functions, including client and program data entry, record and file management, reporting, and maintenance of program resources. The position will collaborate with CCE staff, Fort Drum programs, community agencies, and other partners to connect individuals and families with appropriate resources and services. The Fort Drum ACS Educator will maintain professional relationships with stakeholders, communicate effectively with clients and partners, and provide responsive support to help meet program and organizational objectives.

POSITION DETAILS:

This position is a full-time non-exempt position - 100% FTE, 40 hours per week. The hourly rate for this position is $22.50. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, retirement, vacation, sick and personal leave.

POSITION INFORMATION:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education (Associate’s Degree and two (2) years transferable program/functional experience.
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with military life.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize program resources within the Fort Drum and general community.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, teach and evaluate informal educational programs through a variety of delivery methods to reach individuals and groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people of diverse ages, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate professionally to co-workers, customers, volunteers, and community leaders. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual means.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize computer technologies for educational and communication purposes.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Responsibilities:

Delivery, Evaluation and Applied Research - 80%

  • Implement already-established Fort Drum educational programing and activities as needs are identified to support the established plan of work.
  • Per already established program parameters and utilizing existing resources, provide information to military family members on employment opportunities, family development skills, relocation readiness needs, and skills/resources to promote financial stability.
  • Assist in providing Fort Drum educational programs via mass media.
  • Work to foster acceptance of Fort Drum Program methods and policies while addressing community and individual needs and considering diverse audiences.
  • Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire Association and Fort Drum programming staff to achieve Association program delivery goals.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Coordination/Operation - 15%

  • Coordinate, compile and organize existing program resources and program materials.
  • Promote and implement all major public events and programs, including but not limited to social and mass media efforts related to upcoming events and programs.
  • Answer telephones and assist or direct calls to the appropriate person.
  • Register program participants for programs.
  • Greet and direct visitors.
  • Schedule meetings and classes.
  • Communicate updated community resources (both military and community) to clientele.
  • Enter data in various computer programs or into online forms and/or systems.
  • Provide support to other educators (i.e. filing, copying, formatting correspondence) as directed by Issue Leader and Fort Drum Program Managers.
  • Provide support with all correspondence as needed (letters, meeting materials and agendas, etc.).
  • Work with Issue Leader and Information and Fort Drum Program Managers to create program flyers, brochures, educational materials, and other special projects as needed.
  • Perform other general office duties as needed/assigned.
  • Effectively maintain professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.
  • This position may require the transport of program materials and resources in performing position responsibilities.

Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

Health and Safety - Applied to all duties and functions.

  • Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
