Job Title: Applied Biomechanics & Human Performance Engineer

Reports to:  Sr. Director, Deckers Applied Research Center

Location: Goleta, CA (Hybrid)

Typically 3 times per week in office, Tuesday – Thursday

The Role

Step into the Deckers Applied Research Center (D-ARC) and help shape the future of performance innovation. As an Applied Biomechanics & Human Performance Engineer, you’ll lead research that quantifies how our footwear and apparel impact biomechanics and energetics. You’ll develop new testing methods, deliver actionable insights, and collaborate with product teams to drive science-based improvements that elevate our products and empower athletes and everyday movers alike.

Your Impact

• Design and conduct biomechanical and human performance research studies using state-of-the-art movement lab equipment.
• Lead data collections, ensuring proper calibration and maintenance of all lab equipment.
• Support the D-ARC team with recruitment and scheduling of testers to keep the lab running smoothly.
• Analyze biomechanical data and develop custom data analysis scripts.
• Communicate findings and recommendations to key stakeholders for product improvement.
• Innovate by developing and implementing new testing protocols for evaluating footwear and apparel innovations both inside and outside the lab.
• Build out lab capabilities by identifying suppliers and coordinating installation of new equipment.
• Collaborate with D-ARC and Central Innovation teams on new product innovations.

Who You Are

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Kinesiology, Sports Science, or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in footwear, sports equipment, or human performance research.
• Knowledge of footwear and apparel product testing procedures.
• Familiarity with human performance research equipment such as force-instrumented treadmills, force plates, pressure insoles, IMUs, motion capture systems, and metabolic carts.
• Experience with data processing software such as Theia, Accupower, Visual3D, Matlab, Python, or R.
• Advanced biomechanics research skills and a strong interest in high-performance footwear.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Innovative mindset with experience in product creation, ideally in footwear and apparel.
• Strong collaborator and team player, able to lead or follow as needed.
• Excellent presenter of test results (both written and visual) to multidisciplinary audiences.
