JOB SUMMARY

Job Profile Summary

Performs advanced installation, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of process analyzers, analytical instrumentation, sample conditioning systems, and supporting control and electrical systems across pipeline, terminal, storage, compression, processing, and measurement facilities. This position ensures the reliability, accuracy, and integrity of analyzer systems used for process control, product quality verification, custody transfer measurement, emissions monitoring, and regulatory compliance.

Working with limited supervision, independently performs complex technical assignments, diagnoses equipment and system failures, supports facility reliability initiatives, and serves as a technical resource for analyzer-related systems. The role applies advanced technical knowledge to improve analyzer performance, reduce downtime, enhance measurement accuracy, and support safe and compliant facility operations.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Analyzer Maintenance & Technical Support

• Install, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and optimize process analyzers, analytical instrumentation, sample systems, shelters, and supporting electrical and control equipment.

• Perform advanced diagnostic testing to identify and resolve analyzer performance issues, system failures, and measurement inaccuracies.

• Execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities in accordance with company procedures and manufacturer recommendations.

• Support startup, shutdown, commissioning, and operational readiness activities involving analyzer systems and associated equipment.

• Evaluate analyzer performance and implement corrective measures to improve system reliability and operating effectiveness.

• Reliability & System Optimization

• Monitor analyzer reliability, measurement accuracy, and equipment performance to identify opportunities for operational improvement.

• Investigate recurring analyzer issues and support root cause analyses to reduce failures and improve long-term reliability.

• Partner with operations, engineering, maintenance, and technical specialists to resolve complex analyzer and process-related problems.

• Recommend equipment upgrades, replacement strategies, maintenance improvements, and reliability enhancements.

• Support implementation of analyzer technologies, system modifications, and operational improvement initiatives.

• Measurement, Quality & Regulatory Compliance

• Support analyzer systems used for custody transfer measurement, process control, quality monitoring, environmental compliance, and operational optimization.

• Verify measurement accuracy and analyzer performance through calibration validation, performance testing, and quality assurance activities.

• Review analyzer data and identify trends, abnormalities, and measurement concerns that may impact product quality, operations, or compliance.

• Ensure analyzer systems operate in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements, environmental standards, and industry best practices.

• Support regulatory inspections, audits, emissions compliance activities, and measurement verification efforts.

• Documentation & Data Integrity

• Maintain accurate maintenance records, calibration documentation, inspection reports, troubleshooting records, and technical work history.

• Review analyzer records and maintenance documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with company requirements.

• Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and operational tools to document work activities and support asset management processes.

• Assist with development and revision of maintenance procedures, calibration practices, and technical documentation.

• Support data integrity initiatives related to analyzer performance, maintenance history, and compliance reporting.

• Safety, Environmental & Operational Stewardship

• Perform all work in compliance with company safety programs, environmental requirements, electrical safety standards, and operating procedures.

• Follow established permit-to-work processes, lockout/tagout procedures, confined space requirements, and safe work practices.

• Participate in safety meetings, field audits, incident investigations, and corrective action activities.

• Identify operational, environmental, and equipment risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.

• Promote a culture of safety, compliance, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

• Technical Leadership & Knowledge Sharing

• Serve as a technical resource for analyzer systems, instrumentation, measurement technologies, and maintenance best practices.

• Provide guidance and technical assistance to less experienced technicians and operations personnel.

• Support technical training, onboarding activities, and knowledge transfer initiatives.

• Assist with contractor oversight and coordination during analyzer-related maintenance and project activities.

• Contribute technical expertise to facility projects, system upgrades, and operational improvement efforts.

• Responsibilities may include Department of Transportation (DOT) covered functions, including operations, maintenance, or emergency response on a pipeline. Job duties also require the employee to be alert and respond immediately to dangerous or hazardous conditions, and where impaired performance, or failure to follow safety precautions, could result in serious injury or property damage.

Education

• High school diploma or GED typically required

• Completion of a technical, vocational, or trade-related training program is a plus

• Associate degree in Instrumentation Technology, Electrical Technology, Electronics Technology, Process Technology, Automation Technology, Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline preferred

Work Experience

• 5+ years of experience in analyzer maintenance, instrumentation, industrial controls, electrical systems, process operations, or related technical disciplines.

• Experience troubleshooting and maintaining analyzer systems and analytical instrumentation in industrial operating environments preferred

• Experience supporting calibration, maintenance, measurement verification, and regulatory compliance activities preferred.

• Experience interpreting technical drawings, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and maintenance documentation preferred.

• Experience with gas chromatographs, moisture analyzers, sulfur analyzers, BTU analyzers, emissions monitoring systems, and process analytical equipment preferred.

• Experience supporting natural gas, NGL, condensate, crude oil, storage, pipeline, compression, or processing facilities preferred.

• Experience supporting custody transfer measurement systems and environmental compliance equipment preferred.

• Experience participating in commissioning, startup, or capital project activities preferred

• Equivalent industry work experience may be considered

Licenses and Certifications

• None required for the role, ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) is a plus

• Industry-recognized analyzer certification or manufacturer-specific training preferred.OSHA safety certification, HAZWOPER certification is a plus
