The D&M ÄKTA Field Application Specialist is responsible for driving growth of lab ÄKTA systems and chromatography consumables by partnering with Sales and AMs to deliver high‑level technical expertise across the customer lifecycle, while building strong, long‑term customer relationships through consultation, training, and problem‑solving.

This position reports to the Discovery ÄKTA Applications Leader and is part of the Cytiva Discovery Team. This remote, field-based position is intended to be based in the Chicago area. The role currently supports customers across a Midwest territory, including Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Territory coverage may change based on business needs.

What you will do:

• Drive growth of labscale ÄKTA systems and chromatography consumables by partnering with Account Managers and Sales Specialists to support customers across the sales cycle.
• Provide high‑level technical expertise during pre‑ and post‑sales activities, including customer consultations, instrument demonstrations, training, troubleshooting, seminars, and promotional events.
• Support customer purification and manufacturing projects by shaping early workflow and resin design‑in through application expertise, presentations, and limited bench work.
• Contribute to regional revenue targets and business objectives by providing market, customer, and product insights to sales strategies and account plans as part of the core account team.
• Build and maintain strong, long‑term customer relationships to improve satisfaction, retention, and opportunity development, while providing competitive insights and customer feedback to internal stakeholders.

Who you are:

• 3+ years of hands‑on lab experience in biotech, pharma, or academia with protein purification using lab‑scale ÄKTA systems, UNICORN software, and chromatography resins.
• BS in Life Sciences or Engineering (advanced degree preferred).
• Demonstrated experience delivering technical presentations, training, or consultations and communicating complex scientific information while supporting multiple projects and stakeholders in a matrixed organization.

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:

• Ability to travel overnight up to 50% within the assigned territory.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

• Lab-scale column packing
• Developing technical training
• Downstream process development

The annual salary range for this role is $108,000-120,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
