The Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism’s mission is to provide patients with the personalized, high-quality care they need and expect. We continually push the boundaries of treatment and discovery to develop individualized care plans that address each patient’s unique needs.

Our combination of adult and pediatric subspecialists positions us at the forefront of the diagnosis, treatment, and research of endocrine disorders across the lifespan. Many endocrine conditions begin in childhood and require thoughtful, coordinated care as patients transition into adulthood. Our integrated expertise allows us to provide comprehensive care throughout every stage of life.

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our dynamic team within the Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in providing comprehensive care to patients under the supervision or alternate supervision of attending physicians. The APP will provide high-quality inpatient care, particularly to those with diabetes and hyperglycemia.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care as an Advanced Practice Provider qualified to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients under the supervision or alternate supervision of attending physicians.

  • Work collaboratively with attending physicians and medical trainees to ensure patient care is aligned with the highest standards.

  • Independently see patients in our inpatient setting.

  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, using advanced clinical skills to manage a caseload of patients.

  • Assess, diagnose, initiate delegated medical treatments, perform independent nursing interventions and evaluate care.

  • Provide a model of care that is shaped by theory, expanded by science, research and reflective practice and is identified by a holistic and comprehensive approach to the patients.

  • Attend multidisciplinary conferences of assigned disease area.

  • Manage the care of patients, including assessment, diagnosis and treatment for assigned patients.

  • Document history and physical examination and changes in management according to government guidelines.

  • Help arrange diagnostic tests, follow-up on tests, and other patient care issues.

  • As part of duties, perform reporting for government agencies, chart review, refill prescriptions, and answer phone calls for patients for whom the APP is involved with longitudinal care.

  • Attend weekly conferences and yearly continuing education courses to keep abreast of endocrine patient management.

  • Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization.

  • Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient’s plan of care.

  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from an accredited school/college.


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline.


Certifications:

Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration required. Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO). - State of Illinois

Education:

  • Advanced degree.

Experience:

  • Clinical experience in a related area of specialty.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Once licensed and as needed, apply for a mid-level practitioner controlled substance license and DEA number.

  • Willing to be privileged and credentialed through UCM Medical Staff Office prior to start date.

  • Enter into written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician upon hire.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology and clinical practices.

  • Ability to conduct physical examinations and perform health assessments.

  • Ability to interview patients and obtain accurate medical information.

  • Ability to provide direct patient care in a professional, respectful, and compassionate manner.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • Ability to act as a resource for colleagues and participate in teaching and mentorship.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Problem-solving skills and ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.

  • Strong analytical skills to assess situations and implement solutions efficiently.

Working Conditions

  • Clinical setting.

  • Requires standing, walking, and occasional lifting during patient assessments, procedures, and operating room assistance.

  • May require participation in on-call or after-hours coverage depending on clinical service needs.

  • Regular use of computers, electronic health records, and other medical equipment for documentation and patient care.

  • Occasional travel between clinical sites (e.g., Hyde Park and Orland Park locations).
