The Oregon Department of Justice is seeking to hire an Accounting Technician to join the Division of Child Support, Financial Services team! Our successful candidate will have a strong ability for identifying errors and the skill to find and create solutions in their daily work. If you are an analytical and critical thinker, this is the job for you! In this role you will perform various accounting and reconciling functions on behalf of the Oregon Child Support Program. This position is essential to ensure accuracy and quality of child support accounts and perform centralized tasks for varied financial functions of the program. This position is eligible for hybrid remote work after training has been completed based upon the business need of the section.

Primary Duties (in part)

• Review Oregon State Treasury (OST) reports to identify and process direct deposit returns and reversals.

• Create, log, and distribute direct deposit reversal requests after verifying case manager and supervisor approval.

• Process and maintain direct deposit applications, including reviewing authorization forms, confirming activation, and updating account information.

• Examine returned item reports, initiate redeposit processes, and resolve issues within dishonored recovery and receivable accounts.

• Maintain required logs, ledgers, and tracking documentation in alignment with data classification and security guidelines.

• Provide customer service related to direct deposit and child support payments; respond to inquiries and route case-specific questions to appropriate staff.

• Perform data entry, create electronic files, and organize and maintain team filing systems using Microsoft Office tools.

• Support Financial Services operations through cross‑training tasks such as payment adjustments, UDC balancing, treasury processes, Positive Pay, EFT updates, and BI‑based fund validation.

Required Experience

• Two years of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits; OR
• One year of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits AND at least 43 quarter (29 semester) credit hours from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 9 quarter (6 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2; OR
• Successful completion of the State of Oregon Accounting Career Mobility Program or equivalent accounting certificate program from an accredited college or university; OR
• At least 94 quarter (62 semester) credit hours or an associate degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 12 quarter (8 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2 and may include any additional accounting courses with “accounting” in the title.

Training or experience must include using a computer to enter, update, or retrieve information.
