Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Material Review Board (MRB) Engineer – Engine Hardware to join the Engineering Support to Operations (ESTO) department. In this role, you will provide technical support for Compression Systems and Product Delivery Center hardware and own engineering decisions related to nonconforming aerospace engine hardware. This highly visible role provides the opportunity to work closely with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and supplier organizations while developing expertise in MRB processes and aerospace hardware disposition.

Work Schedule: Alternate Work Week (AWW) — Friday–Sunday, 6:00 AM–6:00 PM.

What You Will Do:

  • Develop a strong understanding of Pratt & Whitney Material Review Board (MRB) procedures and ensure adherence to established processes and requirements.
  • Evaluate hardware nonconformances and provide technically sound dispositions for internally manufactured and supplier-produced aerospace engine hardware.
  • Own technical decisions that ensure product integrity, safety, quality, and compliance with engineering requirements.
  • Evaluate, investigate, and analyze nonconforming hardware and support the development of appropriate rework and repair solutions.
  • Support manufacturing operations throughout the disposition process to ensure safety, durability, producibility, and product quality.
  • Balance manufacturing capabilities with engineering requirements to develop practical, technically sound, and risk-based dispositions.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and supplier organizations to resolve hardware issues and support product delivery.
  • Maintain an unwavering commitment to safety, ethics, product integrity, and customer requirements.
  • Travel up to 10% (Domestic and International).
  • The primary location for this position is the Middletown, CT campus, with travel to the East Hartford, CT campus and, as needed, supplier locations.

What You Will Learn:

  • Develop hands-on expertise in Material Review Board (MRB) processes, hardware nonconformance evaluation, engineering dispositions, repair/rework solutions, and risk-based decision-making. You will also have the opportunity to earn Material Review Engineer (MRE) certification through formal training and on-the-job mentoring.
  • Gain practical experience with aerospace engine compression systems and hardware, learning how engineering requirements, manufacturing processes, producibility, durability, quality, and product integrity come together in a real manufacturing environment.
  • Learn how to lead and communicate engineering decisions while working closely with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and suppliers. You will strengthen your ability to balance engineering requirements with manufacturing capabilities and make sound decisions involving safety, quality, risk, and product delivery.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 8 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced degree in a related field and 5 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience in aerospace design, structures, manufacturing, or quality engineering, preferably supporting gas turbine engines, compression systems, rotating hardware, or hot-section hardware.
  • Ability to obtain Material Review Engineer (MRE) certification through Pratt & Whitney's MRB classroom training and on-the-job mentoring with a certified MRE. Certification will be completed through the established MRE approval process.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • 15+ years of aerospace design or structural engineering experience.
  • Current MRB / MRE certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage technical teams.
  • Experience with process control, Six Sigma, and/or Lean manufacturing tools.
  • Strong understanding of aerospace production processes and the ability to make appropriate risk-based engineering decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work independently and effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience evaluating and resolving hardware nonconformances, deviations, repairs, rework, or engineering dispositions.
