Job Summary:

The Vice President – Power Purchasing, Transmission, & Growth will lead high-impact purchasing and insurance strategies that support the company’s power generation, transmission growth, capital investment, operational resilience, and enterprise risk priorities. This executive role will shape sourcing strategies for major equipment, construction services, renewable generation, BESS, transmission-related growth needs, and other critical supply categories, while also overseeing Avangrid’s insurance programs. The successful candidate will bring executive presence, strong commercial judgment, supply-market expertise, risk-management discipline, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams through complex procurement, contracting, insurance, and project-delivery decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Set the strategic vision, annual priorities, resource plans, and performance targets for Power Purchasing, Transmission growth-related procurement, and Insurance.
  • Serve as an executive advisor on procurement strategy, supplier-market dynamics, commercial risk, insurance considerations, and sourcing decisions that materially affect business outcomes.
  • Align purchasing and insurance strategies with business objectives, capital plans, governance standards, and long-term enterprise value creation.

Purchasing & Supplier Strategy:

  • Oversee sourcing, negotiations, award recommendations, and contract strategies for complex equipment, materials, works, and services supporting renewable generation, BESS, transmission growth, construction, O&M, and other critical needs.
  • Build strategic supplier relationships with OEMs, contractors, service providers, and market participants to secure competitive pricing, quality, delivery certainty, contractual protection, and innovation.
  • Anticipate and manage supply-chain disruptions, market volatility, tariffs, trade restrictions, domestic-content requirements, technology shifts, and supplier-performance risks.
  • Promote procurement synergies through demand aggregation, framework agreements, standardized commercial approaches, and coordination with global purchasing teams.

Insurance & Risk Financing:

  • Provide executive oversight for Avangrid’s insurance strategy, risk financing, renewals, market submissions, coverage solutions, insurance procurement, and claims strategy.
  • Ensure insurance considerations are integrated early into major investment, capital project, operational, contractual, lending, regulatory, and corporate decisions.
  • Partner with Iberdrola Global Risk and Insurance, brokers, carriers, legal counsel, operating companies, and business leaders to identify, quantify, mitigate, transfer, and finance material insurable risks.

Operational Excellence & Governance:

  • Champion continuous improvement, procurement innovation, digital enablement, and data-driven decision-making to improve value delivery and organizational effectiveness.
  • Establish executive-level performance reporting, cost tracking, supplier performance metrics, insurance budget oversight, claims metrics, and governance routines to monitor value delivery and support informed decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with purchasing and insurance policies, procedures, delegated authorities, governance expectations, internal controls, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Lead, develop a high-performing organization of senior leaders, procurement and insurance professionals supporting complex business, capital, and risk priorities.
  • Set strategic goals, reinforce performance expectations, provide executive coaching, and foster a culture of accountability, commercial discipline, collaboration, and excellence. Foster a customer-service orientation within the team.
  • Build trusted relationships across business units, global counterparts, legal, finance, operations, project teams, insurance partners, and operating companies to promote integrated decision-making and enterprise knowledge sharing.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Finance, Risk Management, or related field; equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, supply chain, commercial operations, insurance, risk financing, or related executive roles.
  • Proven success leading complex organizations, major capital sourcing strategies, high-value negotiations, enterprise supplier or insurance-market relationships, and cross-functional initiatives in a large matrixed environment.
  • Strong executive communication, commercial judgment, financial acumen, negotiation skills, customer orientation, and ability to influence senior stakeholders in ambiguous or high-stakes situations.
  • Knowledge of procurement governance, contract administration, supplier risk management, insurance and risk financing practices, claims oversight, compliance requirements, market intelligence, and internal controls.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree, MBA, or relevant professional designation.
  • Experience in the energy, utility, infrastructure, renewable generation, construction, or capital-project environment.
  • Professional certifications such as C.P.M., C.P.S.M., risk management, insurance, or equivalent credentials.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish capability or experience working with global teams.
