Job Title: VP, Private Credit Strategies Data Operations

Job Summary:

Blackstone Credit & Insurance (BXCI) is seeking a seasoned Data Governance/Data Operations subject-matter expert with deep expertise in private credit to own the end-to-end lifecycle of data across our Private Credit Strategies platform. The business originates and holds privately negotiated corporate loans across the capital stack—first lien and unitranche, second lien, junior and mezzanine debt, and related preferred instruments—held in business development companies, commingled funds, separately managed accounts, and insurance mandates. Data on these positions is bespoke, document-driven, and reported on borrower and deal timelines rather than by market feed.

Based in Bangalore, you will act as the offshore SME for the private credit platform and the day-to-day liaison for our New York and London teams. In this role, you will establish and enforce governance standards, steward deal-, facility-, and borrower-level data quality, and run mission-critical data operations (ingestion, normalization, controls, and reporting). You will partner closely with investment, portfolio management, risk, technology, accounting, valuation, and compliance teams to ensure data is accurate, timely, and decision-ready—supporting portfolio monitoring, valuations, and regulatory reporting in a high-performance, regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Private Credit Data Operations

  • Operationalize deal, facility, and borrower KPIs for private corporate credit within our central data warehouse, capturing position economics across the capital stack.
  • Own deal onboarding data from credit agreement and amendment abstraction—facility and tranche setup, pricing grids and margin ratchets, benchmark floors, PIK and cash interest terms, OID and fees, call protection, and delayed draw and revolver commitments—ensuring system of record and warehouse agree.
  • Manage the borrower reporting cycle: track and chase monthly and quarterly financial packages and compliance certificates, capture financial and covenant data (revenue, adjusted EBITDA, leverage and coverage ratios, liquidity), and land it in the warehouse on a predictable calendar.
  • Execute daily and periodic controls over private credit data, including funding and paydown activity, unfunded commitment balances, interest and PIK accruals, and watchlist and risk rating changes.
  • Support the quarterly valuation process with complete, auditable data inputs for internal marks and third-party valuation agents, including comparables, yield inputs, and mark-to-mark change support.
  • Orchestrate data pipelines and APIs between warehouse (Snowflake), loan and portfolio systems, document repositories, accounting platforms (Axiom/Clearwater), and reporting (Sigma/BI).

Controls, Compliance, and Reporting

  • Implement control frameworks for private credit data (pre-/post-ingestion checks, anomaly detection, duplicate prevention, referential integrity), with particular attention to manually sourced and document-derived data.
  • Deliver the data sets supporting fund and vehicle level compliance—BDC asset coverage and eligibility tests, leverage and borrowing base reporting, and mandate guideline monitoring.
  • Support insurance and statutory reporting for insurance-held private credit (NAIC designations and private letter ratings, SSAP data elements, PPN identifiers) and audit-readiness.
  • Reconcile positions, cash movements, accruals, and unfunded commitments against agents, administrators, and accounting platforms; drive breaks to resolution with clear ownership and escalation.
  • Produce portfolio monitoring and surveillance reporting (covenant status, watchlist, non-accrual, amendment and restructuring activity, concentration exposures) for investment and risk stakeholders.
  • Deliver executive-ready KPIs on data quality, operational SLAs, and portfolio impacts; lead remediation programs for systemic data issues.

Stakeholder Partnership

  • Serve as the Bangalore-based point of contact for the New York and London teams; provide daily overlapping-hours coverage, a documented handoff at the open and close of each region's day, and timely escalation of unresolved items.
  • Partner with deal teams, portfolio management, and risk to deliver decision-ready datasets for underwriting comparison, portfolio construction, and scenario analysis.
  • Work with technology to implement scalable ETL, lineage, catalog, and data-access controls; coordinate with compliance/legal on data usage (including PII when applicable).
  • Interface with administrative agents, fund administrators, valuation providers, rating agencies, auditors, and data vendors; manage vendor SLAs and change notifications (file formats, delivery schedules).

Leadership and Change Management

  • Mentor team members, ensuring depth in private credit data processes. Develop coverage and incident response playbooks aligned to quarter-end reporting and valuation cycles.
  • Lead cross-functional projects such as new deal and vehicle onboarding, loan or portfolio system migrations, financial spreading and document workflow automation, and new vendor integrations. Oversee timelines, testing, cutover, and post-implementation reviews.
  • Promote data literacy across investment and operations teams; document standards and SOPs for private credit portfolios and reporting.

Qualifications:

Blackstone seeks to hire individuals who are highly motivated, intelligent and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors. In addition to strong analytical and quantitative skills, the successful candidate should have:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM, Finance, Business, Data Management, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years in data governance/data operations, with 7–10+ years directly in private credit, direct lending, or leveraged finance across the capital stack.
  • Demonstrated ownership of private credit data pipelines, agent and administrator integrations, borrower financial and covenant data capture, and reconciliation processes at scale.
  • Experience operating within a global delivery model as an offshore subject-matter expert supporting onshore investment and operations stakeholders in the US and/or UK.

Technical Expertise

  • SQL skills are necessary for private credit data operations tasks, such as building position, accrual, and covenant exception data sets. Python nice to have.
  • Proficiency in Snowflake for data warehousing, with familiarity in Sigma and Alation to support BI reporting and data lineage.
  • Hands-on experience with private credit and loan systems (e.g., WSO, Solvas, Allvue, iLevel, DealCloud, or similar) and with document and deal-data repositories.
  • Comfort building controls around manually sourced and unstructured inputs—credit agreements, compliance certificates, borrower financials—including workflow, four-eyes review, and audit trail design.
  • Knowledge of accounting and reporting systems (e.g., Axiom, Clearwater, Aladdin) and GAAP/STAT considerations for private credit portfolios beneficial.

Domain Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of private corporate credit mechanics across the capital stack: unitranche and first/second lien structures, junior and mezzanine debt, delayed draw and revolving commitments, PIK toggles, benchmark floors and credit spread adjustments, amendments and waivers, non-accrual treatment, and restructurings.
  • Working knowledge of the quarterly fair value process for illiquid credit, including third-party valuation agent interaction, valuation policy and hierarchy, and the data and audit trail required to support marks.
  • Familiarity with the vehicle landscape for private credit (BDCs, commingled funds, SMAs, insurance mandates) and their respective reporting, leverage, and eligibility requirements.
  • Strong data governance and control expertise across pre-/post-ingestion checks, anomaly detection, referential integrity, data usage and PII requirements, and control frameworks that ensure audit readiness in a regulated environment.
