Position Summary:

The Small Animal Internal Medicine Service is seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our specialty care team. Depending on qualifications and experience, candidates may be hired at the RVT II or RVT III level.


This position provides technical, clinical, and procedural support for patients undergoing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic care within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Responsibilities include specialty patient care, anesthesia and sedation support, advanced endoscopic and minimally invasive procedures, coordination of specialty services such as radioactive iodine (I-131) treatment, client communication, and support of daily clinical operations. The successful candidate will work closely with faculty clinicians, house officers, veterinary students, and technical staff while contributing to the hospital's missions of patient care, teaching, and clinical excellence.


Candidates hired at the RVT III level will additionally serve as a technical resource within the service, providing mentorship, workflow coordination, advanced procedural support, and leadership in training, quality improvement, and specialty program operations.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Provide specialty patient care and technical support for Small Animal Internal Medicine patients by performing advanced nursing procedures, diagnostic sample collection, anesthesia and sedation support, patient monitoring, therapeutic treatments, and other technical duties necessary to support high-quality specialty veterinary care.
  • Assist with advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures by preparing patients, equipment, and procedure areas; operating and maintaining specialized endoscopic and fiber-optic equipment; and supporting endoscopy, bronchoscopy, rhinoscopy, cystoscopy, laparoscopy, and other minimally invasive procedures.
  • Coordinate specialty clinical services and workflow by supporting patient scheduling, procedure preparation, case triage, documentation, and resource utilization to ensure efficient patient flow and continuity of care within a high-volume referral hospital.
  • Support radioactive iodine (I-131) treatment activities by maintaining required safety certifications, assisting with treatment administration and patient monitoring, maintaining regulatory documentation, and ensuring compliance with radiation safety protocols and hospital standards.
  • Communicate with clients and healthcare team members regarding patient care, treatment plans, medication refills, appointments, follow-up care, and hospital services while supporting patient intake, discharge, medical record documentation, and charge capture activities.
  • Provide instruction, mentorship, and technical guidance to veterinary students, interns, residents, veterinary assistants, and technical staff while supporting the teaching mission of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and promoting clinical excellence, technical competency, and patient safety.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of patient care operations, hospital workflow, teaching activities, specialty service initiatives, and the evolving needs of the Small Animal Internal Medicine Service.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Pre-employment criminal background check (required for all new hires).
  • Essential Services Designation: required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Supervision:

Employees hired at the RVT II level will not have formal supervisory responsibilities.


Employees hired at the RVT III level may serve as a lead technical resource within the service, assisting with workflow coordination, technical training, mentorship, and support of specialty procedures and service operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Both II & III:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Credentialed as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or Provisional Veterinary Technician (PVT) through the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) by the time of hire.
  • Certified through the Colorado Association of Certified Veterinary Technicians (CACVT) and registered with DORA in accordance with the Colorado Veterinary Practice Act (effective January 1, 2024).

RVT II:


  • One year of clinical experience in the veterinary field.

RVT III:


  • Three years of clinical experience in the veterinary field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • VTS with the Academy of Internal Medicine Veterinary Technicians.
  • At least one year working as a veterinary technician. 
  • Associate’s degree in veterinary technology from an accredited institution. 
  • Experience in IV catheter placement, venipuncture, cystocentesis, endoscopy, teaching, computer skills, scheduling appointments, and answering client questions preferred but not mandatory. 

Salary Range

RVT VT II : $46,000 + $14,766 = $60,766

RVT VT III or VTS : $63,000 + $20,223 = $83,223
