Program Summary

KBR supports the operational needs of U.S. armed forces at Morón Air Base in Spain and several bases in Turkey. Our services ensure smooth operations, allowing Air Force and government personnel to focus on their missions. We provide program management, civil engineering, morale, welfare, and recreation support, among other essential services. Awarded by the Air Force Installation Contracting Center, our contract spans a five-year base period with three one-year options, reflecting our commitment to excellence and operational support.

Job Summary

Join KBR’s elite team at Morón Air Base as a War Reserve Materiel (WRM) Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) Corrosion Control Specialist / Welder. In this highly specialized expatriate role, you will serve a dual function crucial to extending the lifecycle and ensuring the structural integrity of our ground support fleet under the USAFE Air Base Operations Support (UABOS) contract.

You will be responsible for comprehensively identifying, treating, and preventing corrosion on all AGE and Munitions Material Handling Equipment (MMHE). Concurrently, you will serve as the department's primary fabricator and welder, executing precision metal repairs and structural modifications. By combining surface preparation, industrial painting, and advanced welding techniques, you will ensure our equipment remains fully mission-capable in demanding environmental conditions. This position offers a unique opportunity to apply a highly sought-after blend of technical skills in a dynamic international environment while enjoying the culture of southern Spain.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Corrosion Control & Painting:
    • Inspect AGE, MMHE, and related support equipment to identify corrosion, structural damage, and paint degradation.
    • Perform comprehensive surface preparation, including masking, chemical stripping, mechanical sanding, and abrasive media blasting.
    • Mix and apply chemical conversion coatings, primers, and topcoats (including polyurethanes and epoxy paints) using high-volume, low-pressure (HVLP) spray systems and other application methods.
    • Design, fabricate, and apply stencils, decals, and safety markings in accordance with military specifications.
  • Welding & Fabrication (Metals Technology):
    • Perform structural repairs and fabricate metal components for support equipment using structural steel, aluminum, and other alloys.
    • Operate and maintain welding equipment to perform TIG (GTAW), MIG (GMAW), ARC (SMAW), and oxyacetylene welding and cutting processes.
    • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and military technical orders to manufacture or repair hitches, panels, frames, and tow bars.
  • Safety & Environmental Compliance:
    • Safely handle, store, and dispose of Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) such as paints, thinners, and solvents in strict coordination with the Base Environmental Section and "cradle to grave" protocols.
    • Maintain the paint booth, blasting equipment, and welding shop, ensuring all ventilation and safety systems function properly.
  • General Support & Documentation:
    • Document all maintenance, painting, and welding actions accurately in the Enterprise Logistics Management System (ELMS) and the Integrated Maintenance Data System (IMDS).
    • Assist AGE Mechanics with general equipment maintenance and troubleshooting when required.
  • Safely wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including full-face and supplied-air respirators, and work in confined spaces or paint booths.
  • Physical requirements include lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs. unassisted on a regular basis, and stand, bend, or kneel for extended periods in an active flightline/industrial environment.

Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of combined experience in corrosion control/industrial painting AND structural welding/metal fabrication, preferably on aircraft, ground support equipment, or heavy heavy-duty commercial equipment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in multiple welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick) and industrial painting techniques.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and hold an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior USAF experience in AFSC 2A7X1 (Aircraft Metals Technology) or AFSC 2A7X3 (Aircraft Structural Maintenance), or a similar occupational specialty from another military branch (e.g., Navy Hull Maintenance Technician / Aviation Structural Mechanic).
  • In lieu of pure military experience, equivalent experience from a civilian aviation, airport ground support, or commercial Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) environment demonstrating the highest caliber of structural welding and industrial corrosion control will be highly considered.
  • Heavy equipment operator experience and/or certification, specifically for forklifts up to 10,000 lbs (10K), for moving heavy equipment assets, raw metal stock, and palletized materials.
  • Active welding certifications (e.g., American Welding Society - AWS).
  • Prior experience working in a military AGE flight (AFSC 2A6X2) with cross-training in metals technology or corrosion control.
  • Experience supporting a WRM program.
  • Formal training or certification in HAZMAT handling, respirator fit-testing, and industrial paint booth operations.
  • Direct experience documenting maintenance in IMDS, ELMS, or G081.
  • Heavy equipment towing experience and/or a valid forklift operator certification (up to 10k capacity)
