Summary

Professional Services at Guidewire partners with P&C insurers worldwide to design, implement, and optimize mission-critical solutions on the Guidewire platform, with a strong focus on cloud and AI-enabled delivery. You’ll join a collaborative, global team that values curiosity, transparency, and continuous improvement, working closely with customers and internal stakeholders.
As a Performance Test Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that Guidewire-based projects/ solutions meet defined performance, scalability, and stability goals. You will design and execute performance tests, analyze results to identify bottlenecks and areas for optimization, and collaborate closely with functional QA, developers, and architects to help deliver high-quality, reliable solutions for our P&C insurance customers.

Job Description

What you’ll do

• Take end-to-end ownership of performance testing for assigned projects, from requirement analysis through sign-off.
• Work with architects, functional QA, business analysts, and developers to understand business flows, volumes, SLAs, and peak load expectations.
• Design performance test approach and scenarios, including workload models, test data strategy, and environment pre-requisites.
• Develop, maintain, and execute performance test scripts using tools such as JMeter (or equivalent).
• Execute different types of performance tests (load, stress, endurance/soak, spike, scalability) and capture key metrics.
• Monitor application, database, and infrastructure during test runs, and consolidate findings into clear, actionable reports.
• Analyze test results to identify hotspots and potential risks; provide recommendations for tuning and retest as needed.
• Collaborate with development and DevOps/cloud teams to validate fixes and configuration changes.
• Maintain all performance test artefacts: test plans, scripts, datasets, execution logs, and result summaries.
• Share performance testing best practices with functional QA and junior team members; support knowledge sharing within the QA practice.

What you’ll bring

• 5-8 years of overall software QA experience, with at least 3 years focused on performance testing of web or enterprise applications.
• Hands-on experience with at least one performance testing tool (e.g., JMeter, Gatling; LoadRunner or similar is a plus).
• Good understanding of performance test types and key concepts: response time, throughput, concurrency, error rates, capacity, and SLAs.
• Ability to interpret and correlate performance metrics across:
  • Application / JVM (threads, heap, GC, response times, throughput)
  • Database (slow queries, indexing, connection pooling)
  • Infrastructure (CPU, memory, network, disk I/O)
• Experience using monitoring / APM tools (e.g., Datadog, AppDynamics, New Relic, or similar) to support analysis.
• Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex performance issues under time pressure.
• Good communication skills and stakeholder management; comfortable working with distributed, cross-functional teams.

Preferred

• Experience with Guidewire applications (PolicyCenter, ClaimCenter, BillingCenter) or other large-scale, mission-critical enterprise platforms.
• Exposure to testing in cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP) and distributed architectures.
• Prior experience in a Professional Services / implementation or customer-facing delivery environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
