Job Details

New ideas are all around us, but only a few will change the world. That’s our focus at JPL. We ask the biggest questions, then search the universe for answers—literally. We build upon ideas that have guided generations, then share our discoveries to inspire generations to come. Your mission—your opportunity—is to seek out the answers that bring us one step closer. If you’re driven to discover, create, and inspire something that lasts a lifetime and beyond, you’re ready for JPL.

Located in Pasadena, California, JPL has a campus-like environment situated on 177 acres in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains and offers a work environment unlike any other: we inspire passion, foster innovation, build collaboration, and reward excellence.

Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Systems Engineer II to support the development, integration, test, and operational readiness of JPL flight systems. This position will be responsible for the design, development, maintenance, and operation of ground support equipment and test infrastructure used to integrate and verify flight hardware and systems.

This position with the Support Equipment Hardware Group  will work closely with electrical, mechanical, power, avionics, software, systems engineering, and mission operations teams to develop test configurations, execute integration activities, troubleshoot hardware and software interfaces, and ensure the flight system is ready for environmental and functional testing.

Tasks include but may not be limited to:

  • Develop, integrate, and test ground support equipment (GSE) for spacecraft, launch vehicles, or other aerospace systems.
  • Plan and execute integration and test (I&T) activities.
  • Create test procedures, test plans, and verification documentation.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, electrical, and system-level problems during integration and testing.
  • Interface with systems, electrical, mechanical, software, manufacturing, and operations teams.
  • Support installation, checkout, commissioning, and maintenance of ground support systems.
  • Analyze test data and document results, failures, root causes, and corrective actions.
  • Support test readiness reviews and other engineering reviews.
  • Work with suppliers and technicians to resolve GSE and test-equipment issues.
  • Follow configuration management, safety, quality, and testing procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with a minimum of 3 years of related work experience; Masters in a similar discipline with a minimum of 1 year of related work experience; PhD in a similar discipline with a minimum of 0 years of related work experience.
  • Experience with spacecraft, aerospace, or other complex electromechanical systems integration and test.
  • Experience developing, configuring, operating ground support equipment and test systems.
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and system interface documentation.
  • Experience developing and executing engineering test procedures.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across hardware and software interfaces.
  • Ability to work hands-on with engineering hardware and test equipment.
  • Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering and test environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with spacecraft electrical ground support equipment (EGSE).
  • Experience with spacecraft integration facilities, testbeds, simulators, and flight-like hardware.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft avionics, command and data handling, power systems, telecommunications, and flight software interfaces.
  • Experience with test automation, scripting, and data analysis using Python or similar tools.
  • Experience with laboratory instrumentation and test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, DMMs, network analyzers, and data acquisition systems.
  • Experience with configuration management and change control for flight and ground systems.
  • Familiarity with established ESE and flight-system engineering tools.
  • Familiarity with Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, or similar engineering/test software.
  • Experience using AI/generative AI tools to accelerate test development, documentation, troubleshooting, data analysis, or engineering workflows.
  • Experience developing automated test sequences and hardware-in-the-loop or software-in-the-loop test environments.
