ID.me is a full-time, in-office culture. Unless a specific job description explicitly states otherwise, all roles are on-site five days per week at one of our offices in McLean, VA; Mountain View, CA; New York City, NY; or Tampa, FL. Role Overview
We are seeking a Software Development Engineer Intern to join our growing engineering organization at ID.me. As an intern, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful work across a variety of product and platform teams. Whether it's building user-facing features, developing APIs, or strengthening the underlying platform, your work will directly impact millions of users. As an SDE Intern, you'll gain experience working with modern technologies and collaborating with experienced engineers to deliver high-quality solutions in line with this strategy.
This role is based out of our Mountain View, CA office, and requires full-time in-office attendance.
Example Intern Projects You Could Work On
- AI shopping concierge: a conversational AI chat widget for shop.id.me that answers member questions using a RAG-based agent connected to ID.me's Shop systems.
- AI Slack agent for Shop Ops: an LLM-driven Slack agent that turns natural-language requests into catalog updates, replacing a manual, dozens-of-fields process, with a human-approval gate before changes go live.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and test software components under the guidance of more experienced engineers.
- Contribute to our platform's evolution by developing API-first services used by internal and external teams.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and agile ceremonies to continuously grow your skills.
- Write clear, maintainable, and well-documented code.
- Help troubleshoot issues in development and production environments.
- Learn best practices for software engineering, security, testing, and observability in a platform company, and collaborate with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to ship impactful features.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduating in 2028 or beyond
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or related quantitative field.
- Demonstrable proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, JavaScript, Go, Python, or Ruby), gained through coursework, internships, or personal projects.
- Strong understanding of basic computer science concepts, including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.
Preferred Qualifications
- Eagerness to learn and take feedback in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs and client-server communication.
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure through internships or schoolwork.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Interest in platform engineering, API design, or building developer tools.
- Exposure to applied AI/LLM development, such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), prompt engineering, or function/tool-calling — from coursework, internships, hackathons, or personal projects.
- Clear communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
What We Offer
- Intern Schedule: 12 weeks, 40 hours per week, onsite
- Competitive Compensation: $60/h-$70/h base hourly rate
- Start dates for this internship are May & June of 2027
- ID.me may provide a housing stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2027 Intern Program.

The annual base salary listed does not include a company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity and benefits which will be determined based on experience, skills, education, relevant training, geographic location and role.
