It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work

The Substance Abuse Worker supports residential substance use disorder treatment programs within the Division of Rehabilitation and Reentry by providing supervision, daily living assistance, and structured support to clients in a 24/7 facility setting. The role helps maintain a safe and orderly environment, contributes to treatment team operations, and ensures consistent monitoring, documentation, and client engagement aligned with program standards.

Key Duties Include:
*Supervise and monitor clients in a residential treatment environment and conduct routine safety checks.
*Support clients with daily living needs, including hygiene, meals, and medication management under supervision.
*Facilitate structured group activities and assist with treatment‑related educational sessions.
*Document client behaviors, progress, and incidents in an accurate and timely manner.
*Respond to crisis situations and assist in de‑escalation and stabilization efforts.
*Transport clients to scheduled appointments, meetings, and program activities.
*Collaborate with treatment staff to support individualized treatment plans and program operations.
*Maintain facility cleanliness, security, and adherence to established rules and procedures.

This position is located in Black Mountain, NC.

Salary Range: $32,287-$56,502

Work Schedule:
Have flexibility to work any shift (3rd, 2nd, and 1st) to staff the 24/7 operation of these facilities; according to the need. Employees may be assigned to work 8 or 10-hour shifts 4 or 5 days a week.

• Shift Premium Pay is also available in addition to the base salary for employees assigned to 2nd and 3rd shifts.
• Required to work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
• Accommodate modifications to work schedules including hold-over or schedule changes on short notice to provide critical operational needs.

Veterans’ and National Guard Preference
