Position Summary:

The Black/African American Cultural Center (B/AACC), a department within the Division of Student Affairs, is open to all students and serves as a resource for the university and surrounding communities by cultivating student development, uplifting cultural celebration, and facilitating African Diasporic Education initiatives for anyone interested in connecting with Black/African diasporic experiences.    


The Student Success Coordinator is a full-time, 12-month Administrative Professional position within the Black/African American Cultural Center (B/AACC) reporting to the Assistant Director of B/AACC. This position supports student success, personal development, co-curricular engagement, and belonging through student development initiatives, programming, operations, and campus partnerships. The coordinator serves as a key resource for students and helps cultivate a welcoming and culturally responsive environment. 


The Student Success Coordinator supervises up to six student staff, which includes hiring, training, development, and evaluation of the staff. This position requires skills for successful, active collaboration across all Cultural Resource Centers (CRCs), such as flexibility, thorough communication, and knowledge of student needs and concerns. In addition, this position will actively model Colorado State University’s Principles of Community.

Essential Duties:

  • Coordinate and implement the B/AACC portfolio of student development programs, including small-scale engagement opportunities and large-scale signature events. Including our biweekly student dialogue, “Real Talk.” 
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for new and returning students seeking connection, involvement, support, and engagement through the B/AACC.  
  • Supervise the B/AACC Educational Support Team (B.E.S.T.) Student Programming Team, including Lead Peer Coordinators and Peer Coordinators.  
  • Co-Coordinate daily operations of the B/AACC, including space reservations, calendar management, B/AACC Library and Art Corner, and ensuring the center remains a welcoming and functional space. 
  • Coordinate the B/AACC Volunteer Program, including volunteer recruitment and engagement efforts.  
  • Lead communications and outreach efforts that promote student involvement and awareness of B/AACC programs, services, and resources, including event submissions and promotion. 
  • Work collaboratively with Cultural Resource Centers, Student Affairs departments, academic units, student organizations, alumni, and community partners on shared programs, outreach efforts, and student success initiatives. Support divisional committees, special projects, and strategic initiatives assigned. 
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor. 

 

Supervision:

Up to six part-time student staff, at ten hours a week each.


Conditions of Employment:

  • Evening and weekend work hours depend on program and event offerings or to best meet the needs of students. 
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position. 
  • Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires) 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. 
  • 1 year experience with coordination, planning, and facilitation of educational programming on African Diasporic issues. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs and concerns of Black/African Diasporic college students from a multi-faceted lens.   

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a full-time professional role directly serving college students/young adults. 
  • Experience planning large-scale programs and events.
  • Experience leading or serving in a volunteer program.
  • Experience supervising and/or training employees.   
  • Experience with the development and/or implementation of student success initiatives (such as career development, academic coaching, tutoring, leadership development or similar programs) for college students/young adults.  
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining effective collaborative/team relationships with individuals and organizations.

$50,000-$53,000K
