Structural Steel Fitter/Fabricator

Shifts: 1st and 2nd Shift
Schedule: Some Saturdays required
Starting Pay: $21.00/hour; higher pay may be available depending on experience.
2nd Shift Differential: Additional 10%
Position Summary
We are hiring an experienced Structural Steel Fitter/Fabricator for a manufacturing and fabrication shop. This position involves measuring, cutting, fitting, and assembling structural steel components using fabrication tools and equipment.
Qualified candidates should have hands-on experience working with structural steel, reading fabrication drawings, and preparing metal components for welding and assembly.
Job Responsibilities

Review blueprints, shop drawings, weld symbols, and layout instructions to determine fabrication requirements.

Measure, mark, cut, fit, and assemble structural steel components, including beams, columns, stairs, railings, and miscellaneous metal products.

Perform structural steel layout and prepare materials for fabrication and welding.

Operate shop equipment such as ironworkers, magnetic drills (mag drills), band saws, grinders, oxy-fuel torches, and plasma cutters.

Use hand tools and other fabrication equipment to complete fitting and assembly work.

Tack weld and prepare fitted steel components for final welding and production.

Handle and position heavy steel materials using overhead cranes, rigging equipment, and material handling tools.

Check measurements, dimensions, alignment, squareness, and fit-up before welding or final assembly.

Follow production schedules while maintaining accuracy and workmanship.

Keep the fabrication area clean, organized, and compliant with safety requirements.
Required Qualifications

At least 2 years of structural steel fitting or fabrication experience preferred.

Ability to read and understand structural steel blueprints, fabrication drawings, and weld symbols.

Hands-on knowledge of steel layout, fitting, measuring, and assembly techniques.

Familiarity with fabrication machinery, measuring instruments, and shop tools.

Ability to handle heavy materials and remain standing for extended periods.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.

Ability to work effectively with a team and meet production deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) in structural steel fabrication.

Ability to produce clean, strong FCAW welds on structural steel components.

Experience welding in multiple positions, including flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.

Previous experience operating overhead cranes and using rigging equipment.
Schedule & Work Environment
-
Openings available on 1st and 2nd shifts.
-
Some Saturday work may be required based on production needs.

Second-shift employees receive an additional 10% shift differential.
