Responsibilities
- Perform structural analysis and design of industrial and manufacturing facilities, including industrial buildings, steel and concrete structures, equipment supports and foundations, pipe racks, platforms, access structures, and other industrial structural systems.
- Perform structural evaluations, modifications, and repairs of existing industrial structures.
- Review shop drawings and provide construction support, including responding to RFIs and addressing field-related structural issues.
- Develop structural designs from conceptual design through final engineering and construction documents.
- Perform structural calculations using applicable building codes, standards, and engineering principles.
- Review and check structural drawings and details prepared by designers and junior engineers.
- Develop and review designs using software such as RISA-3D, RISA Foundation, RISA Connection, PROFIS, Mathcad, AutoCAD, Advance Steel, and Revit.
- Participate in project meetings and coordinate structural design with civil, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and other disciplines.
- Serve as a structural task lead on assigned projects, with guidance from senior engineering staff.
- Assist with project scoping, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring project budgets.
- Prepare material take-offs and assist with construction cost estimating.
- Perform field investigations and site visits, including climbing stairs/ladders and extensive walking.
- Communicate directly with clients, contractors, and vendors.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment.
- Maintain a high level of quality and take ownership of assigned work and commitments.
- Travel periodically for site visits and project-related activities, primarily within Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 5+ years of structural engineering experience, preferably in industrial, manufacturing, or similar facilities.
- Demonstrated experience with structural steel, reinforced concrete, foundations, and masonry design.
- Experience developing structural designs from conceptual design through construction documents.
- Experience reviewing drawings and coordinating structural work with designers and other disciplines.
- Working knowledge of applicable building codes, design standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Working knowledge of architectural, civil/site, and multidisciplinary design requirements.
- Proficiency with structural analysis and design software; experience with RISA-3D, RISA Foundation, RISA Connection, Revit, AutoCAD, or similar programs is preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver quality work.
- Willingness and ability to perform field work and construction observations.
- Willingness to travel periodically, primarily within Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $165,000.
