Procurement Category Manager (Hybrid)

General Description of Role

The Procurement Category Manager oversees the entire DaVita Way of Procurement process for large global categories (typically >$25M spend, and up to $250M), from strategy development to execution. They set goals, manage supplier relationships, and collaborate with field/regional counterparts for optimal strategy implementation.

Expected Outcomes Driven by the Teammate:

• Savings, Innovation, Improved Quality and Service: Leading the entire category management process ensures optimized strategies, fostering efficiency and innovation in procurement practices. Yearly savings targets will vary from $1.0M to $3.5M.
• Creative Commercial Outcomes: Developing and executing effective "go-to-market" strategies facilitates successful negotiations, driving favorable commercial terms and value creation. Involves regular negotiations with VP and Director level leaders at suppliers.
• Interdepartmental Collaboration: Collaborating across business units and regional teams fosters positive organizational outcomes, ensuring alignment and synergy in procurement efforts.
• Supplier Relationship Management: Leading supplier performance management processes enhances supplier relationships, fostering accountability and driving continuous improvement.
  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop extensive market knowledge and a deep understanding of the assigned spend areas.
• Demonstrate strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to extract key themes, determine root causes, develop creative solutions, and craft concise messages.
• Collaborate with internal business partners (both clinical and technical) to understand demand and supplier trends. Build effective relationships, influence peers and key stakeholders, and drive consensus.
• Manage supplier relationships, including developing supplier performance metrics (KPIs), capability development, cost and quality improvements for key suppliers and product categories.
• Identify and document supplier risk items to develop mitigation strategies and plans.
• Monitor compliance with DaVita’s product formularies and ensure contract terms are being met.
• Balance multiple tasks and competing priorities simultaneously.

Education & Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) with 5–7 years of relevant Supply Chain / Procurement experience, or an MBA with a background in contract analysis and negotiation. Relevant experience in Finance, Operations, or similar functions is applicable.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with teammates across various departments and external supplier partners.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently to balance multiple tasks and competing priorities simultaneously.
• Proven experience leading and executing RFPs and competitive bidding processes.
• Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; ability to operate Tableau (building dashboards is not required, but experience is valued).

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

• CPSM or equivalent Supply Chain certifications are a plus.
  

Travel Requirements

• Travel up to 15%.

• Language Skills: Fluent in the written and verbal skills necessary to successfully perform the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the position.

• Work Environment: Level III – Moderate noise (e.g., business office with computers or printers, light traffic). • Visual: Vision adequate to perform the essential duties/responsibilities of position. May be required to demonstrate the ability to differentiate colors on a test strip.
• Physical Demands: Physical requirements can vary. These must be reviewed with management. However, in general, the position requires the following activities:Ability to lift a minimum of 5 lbs to a maximum of 50 lbs unassisted and able to stand, sit, stoop, walk, stretch, reach, and use full range of body motions.Manual dexterity as required for specific equipment and ability to use computer keyboard and peripherals.
